Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [Sunday 13th May 2012]

Fair play to City, win your final game in a way truly fitting of champions. Cruel way for us to lose out but there you go you win some you lose some.

Has Biz been on yet? :p

Well done to City, it was well deserved. I'm glad I missed the second half as I would have probably had a heart attack. :D

Thank god it's all over.

I nearly bit my fingers off slipping from the edge of the sofa a few times :D - last few minutes were so ******* painful

Unreal day of footie, unreal season to be fair, don't think we'll see anything like this again for a long time.

City deserved champions, by far the best team for me.

Indeed, as they're saying, us beating Liverpool at Anfield on the last day of the 88-89 season was probably the last time it went down to the wire like this.

Phew, oh well, La Liga in 30mins, see if Madrid can hit 100 points this season in their final game then it's the Euros to come. Hopefully we can buy and offload a few players before the tournament starts as otherwise it gets all 'had a good tournament, now costs twice as much'.

Thanks for everything Pat! Look forward to seeing what Bould can bring to the set up! (Teaching them how to defend would be a start!)

think this season has shown how great a manager fergie is, to lose only to goal difference with the current squad and to such a city squad is impressive.

Congrats to City, as much as it pains me to say it, they were the better team this season and put in some excellent performances, particularly when it mattered and against the biggest opposition. I'm also proud of United that despite being pretty poor by our standards we still managed to finish level on points with City and set a record for the team coming second in the EPL.

I'm now looking forward to the Euros and to the transfer market this summer. City have set the bar very high and could potentially improve their squad over the summer, so Fergie is going to have to buy very well to make us competitive next year. It's going to be a tough ask, but we'll just have to see what happens. In a way, it's probably a good thing that we didn't win the title. That would have allowed Fergie and United as a whole to paper over the cracks and pretend we don't need some serious investment in the squad. This might be the wake-up call to the owners that was needed, so hopefully we'll have a strong summer in the transfer market.

Barton is trying to claim that his knee in the back of Aguero and headbutt on Kompany was tactical, to try and get one of their players to react and get sent off too.

Oh totally forgot that today was Pat Rice's last game as second in command to Wenger...what a legend, been with the club for 40 odd yrs i think or something from what i read. Credit to the guy, hes been there through thick and thin. Fitting way of us winning to send him off in style.

So so relieved we got 3rd in the end, saw the score tied at 2-2 halftime and thought oh **** here we go again, Arsenal jumping in the lead then giving up the lead to go behind then we manage to score a winner. Was a very close shave for us and like City left it till the last game to have 3rd place sewn up.

Unlucky that Newcastle didnt get the 4th spot, felt that they should have got it but meh Spurs in the CL next season barring a Chelsea final win next weekend against Bayern. They probably wont get out of the qualifying group unless they sign some decent players and im not talking about Ade barn door:p.

But again congrats to City, they deserved to win it as they did put in some epic wins over the season but i dont like the fact that they literally bought the title like Chelsea did a few yrs back. Will be interesting to see what happens over the summer ie with transfers and also see what Chelsea do about their management situation, im pretty sure they will be signing some players for stupid amounts of money along with City. It looks like this summer is going to be quiet for Arsenal as we have far too many players on our books, so need to get rid of some before we buy i imagine. Also hoping that RVP does sign a new contract to shut the naysayers up ie the ones who want RVP to leave...he wont be leaving this season thats for sure;).

Barton the vile thug that he is, is looking at a lengthy ban...good and i hope the FA come down very hard on him as he has really no place on a pitch let alone in a football stadium.

Onto the Euros, looking forward to watching that this summer.

Happy to see the back of that season, it's been a tough few years for us and we've lost a lot of key players. Now that we've secured Champions League football the main objective will be getting RVP to sign a new contract. Personally I don't think we need any more central defenders, a new right back perhaps as Jenkinson is dire even for a kid. We're pretty much sorted in the middle of the pitch when Arteta and Wilshere return, I think we could do with a defensive midfielder to cover up for Song and then we'll be set. I can see lots of trimming of the squad in the summer and possibly 2 or 3 signings.

Can't believe Spurs bottled it yet again, we did show good spirit to fight back and that shows, with us picking up the most comeback points of all the teams in the league this season, the worrying thing is that we allow ourselves to get into those positions though. No idea if Bould will be able to instill some defensive discipline as I've read his youth team conceded 10 goals in a single match twice recently, hopefully working with older and more experienced players will help him.

Joey Barton said once he was red carded he tried getting a City player sent off too hence trying to 'wind' them up... but failed. What.a.guy. Someone sack him please.

Well done to QPR for staying up, I would have preferred Bolton to stay up tbh, as QPR have been awful recently, but they seem to have a decent set up which could turn them in to a decent premier league club over the next few years. Just one thing- GET RID OF BARTON OR I HOPE YOU GO DOWN NEXT YEAR!

I Just saw this interview with QPR chairman and he seems liek a decent bloke who will see the club right.

My best mate supports QPR so I suppose I kind of want them to do well....sometimes

well, we didn't really bottle it, did we? we finished 4th. if you'd have offered spurs fans 4th at the start of the season, they'd have taken it. we finished 1 point behind you on equal GD. if wba's keeper hadn't had such a mare today, we'd have finished 3rd.

Pat Rice came to the club in 1964 or something, truly an Arsenal man through and through. I think Bould could be an excellent addition to the first team though as a foil to Wenger... hope he stamps some authority on the defence.

Being 10 points above someone could be deemed as bottling it :p

Considering we were 17th in the league at one point and it was looking pretty dire, and you were in a commanding position but spectacularly rolled over I would say you did bottle it, yes. :)
