Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [Sunday 13th May 2012]

Martinez turned it down last time when they had a better setup/players, can't see him taking it now unless been given a hefty budget.

Why would anyone want the Villa job?

They have an average (at best) squad, an owner who doesn't want to spend money and despite all this fans who expect to finish top 8 every year and challenge for a cup. If I was Lambert I would stay at a Norwich side who are building up rather than a Villa side on the way down.

He's invested plenty as it is, we just can't hold on to our players when the dollar comes calling.

and lol @ all the barton haters (and rightly so) though i wonder if the same people who defended him in the norwich match would now still defend him?

Joey was obviously just a bit upset at that Argie Olympic commercial shot on the Falklands so he took out two of their frontline troops.

Makes you proud to be British .. God love our Joey LOL

Given the circumstances under which Lambert joined Norwich I don't think he's afraid of the challenge of turning a team round.

Sadly. Don't leave us, Paul! :(

Fair point that, his Colchester side beat us 7-1 at Carrow Road and he then took the job of manager at Norwich, his Norwich team beat Villa 2-0 at Carrow Road so he might now leave us to join Villa

Ofcourse that depends on how much of a budget he will get at Norwich in comparison to the budget he could have at Villa, as he doesn't seem like the type of manager who would prefer to push up the table rather than sitting in mid-table for 5 years..

What about bringing the game into disrepute on Twitter? Saying that he was "trying to take someone out" etc? That should count for a few games as well.

Will only get a fine for that.

IMO the FA should continue the trend of adding an additional games ban for further reds during the season so his second red for the elbow should be 4 games, his third red for the kick 5 and his fourth red for the attempted headbutt 6 making 15 in total.

Barton's been charged with two counts of being a **** and faces a 9 game ban.

Thought it was a 10 match ban from what i read earlier online.

Seriously though he really needs to be kicked out of football completely, the guy is a thug and one day hes really going to hurt someone badly. He needs some anger management therapy asap and QPR would do well to kill his contract and tell him to **** off.

Saying that maybe next season, someone will hammer him good and proper...shame Pepe from Real isnt playing in the EPL...him and Barton could go toe to toe, that would be epic:p. Both are thugs and thoroughly despicable footballers, if you can call them that:p

Anyone remember when Karl Henry did a job on him, smashed him about 4 or 5 times in a game, sound challenges as well.

They had to bring the smelling salts on for him, and he kicked off with Mick Mccarthy at the end of the game because he felt they targeted him! Awesome

If I remember rightly he was yelling about it in the press about Karl Henry intentionally trying to hurt people as well? The irony.

Here we go (00:30, 04:15 & 08:10 for a few - last one not the best challenge but the first 2 absolute belting reducers): http://www.soccerclips.net/videos/wolves-v-newcastle-motd-highlights-2010

Don't you need spending money first?? Thought that was the whole reason O'Neil left in the first place...

Yup we do, Put it this way if Lerner doesn't put out some funds for the coming season we'll be relegation fodder again & then it was pointless sacking Mcleish for the inevitable to happen anyway.

We have a load of high wage players coming off the books also.

You're losing what, 30-50mil a season in the last few seasons, unless fans see funds in terms of transfers coming in then magically owners aren't spending anything, its hilarious.

Villa need a full rebuild job a la newcastle. They need to cut wages by you know, 20mil +, and actually break even before they consider any "real" spending.

Bolton, Villa, Blackburn, finances are an utter joke. Fulham effectively have debt of 200mil, but its an unsecured loan from their owner with no interest and no commitment to pay it back while Bolton are paying interest to their owner and still own 25mil to the bank, Blackburn are just a joke and Villa, not sure where all their debt is held, nor if Lerner can actually afford the losses they are taking.

Wages should be significantly less bad than a couple years ago when they made something like a 46mil loss, but still not low enough.

Villa continuing as they are, say losing 30-40mil a year, just to stay in the prem can't work forever.
