Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [Sunday 13th May 2012]

This picture is wrong

He has assists?!? Two in fact!

Mcleish getting the sack hopefully! YAY :D

The picture isn't wrong, it's looking at his performances in the league, where he has neither had an assists nor any goals.

I still don't understand why both Villa and McLeish thought it would be a good idea to have a former Birmingham manager take over.. Even if he had of finished in the top 10 the fans would still be annoyed due to his past..

Props to Joey Barton for conducting himself in a very graceful and dignified manner in the aftermath of yesterdays 'antics'

..... I hope that is football career over.

Got to give him credit for the most ambitious defence ever though-
The head was never gone at any stage. Once I'd been sent off, one of our players suggested I should try to take 1 of theirs with me. Never worked but god loves a trier.

HES A SAINT!

hmmmm ESPN site or the official PL site which to believe

ESPN are usually pretty reliable for stats(well they are for Cricket atleast) so I'm more likely to believe the ESPN site.. Even if the premier league site is right and he has 2 assists, that's not what you expect from a 20 million pound winger..

is he out of contract in the summer? i wonder if any pl clubs will go in for him, i can see him at stoke or sunderland ..... maybe even villa, or, infact any of 'those' kind of clubs.

what's the betting i read redknapp has snapped him up in 2 weeks time.

I can see it now. Five minutes before the window shuts we sign after valiant attempts to sign Carlton Cole failed due to not meeting West Hams valuation (250,000). Kevin Davies would be a typical Harry/Levy signing.

Nope I'm right he does have at least 1 assist at QPR. Trying to find the 2nd.

71:24 Assist by Stewart Downing. 71:24 Goal scored
Goal - Dirk Kuyt - QPR 0 - 2 Liverpool
Goal scored by Dirk Kuyt from close in to the bottom left corner of the goal. QPR 0-2 Liverpool.

Not good enough for a 20mil winger indeed.

Downing has not had a great season, but people using the assists stat against him is a little bit skewed. I have seen him create plenty of chances in the games I have seen him play. Liverpool's strikers are almost as much to blame for him not having many(any) assists as he is imo.

I think he will come good anyway.

Well great season all said and done :)

WOuld have been nice to get CL but to even get Europa is a massive achievement so cannot be too disapointed :)

Since I hate watching England on to a boring summer now, hopefully some good signings in the summer (and keep those we have) and should be another interesting season next season :D Euro football back as well! :D

Last time for the season... HAWAY THE LADS!!! :D

I watch quite a bit of football but rarely post in here

As a Man United fan, I went into the game yesterday fully expecting to come second on the league. That was the most exciting final day in a season I've ever witnessed. The pub roared when QPR went 2-1 up.

After the final whistle in the United game, they turned over to City. Within 20 seconds, we saw the second City goal. I've never been so shell shocked in my life, one of the boys ran home and locked himself in his room :D (He lives with a City supporter)

Intense

Real test for Newcastle is replicating it next season when everybody will be ready for you

Completely agree.

I think a bigger test is keeping our team together though, I think the team that we have is good enough to compete for between 4-6th again next year but we need additions (LB, CB, Winger, CF) to fill out the squad and buffer us against injuries and ACoN which is stupidly on two years running.

Add in Euro football and it will be a test but apparently Cashley has plans for 3-4 new players if we got Euro football (which we did) and apparently knew of 6 signings on the off chance we managed CL. So it seems they are again well prepared and know what they need to do so will just have to wait and see.

If we can keep what we have and add wisely will be an interesting season again next year, what I really want to see is us making the effort for a good cup run in one of the three we are in because, realistically, we won't break into top 4 but some silverware would be amazing.

But we'll see, I'm actually hoping for a quiet summer because I'm sick of the Toon rollercoaster but we'll see :D
