Anderson played very well. Made some good passes won theball on occasion and also showed the can beat a man or shield the ball from his man.

I didnt see what the hype is about for cleverly, didnt he bl\ze a couple of shots high and handsome needlessly? i know big pressure first game competativewise of the season but i did miss a couple of minutes getting a drink and a smoke break in the middle of the 2nd half, si maybe i missed the cleverly cameo.

Cleverley ran that midfield when he came on!

I just hope Cleverly manages to do that with a more commanding / attacking CM than the one City put out - if he has to learn it, then no worries at all he is still pretty young, but it wasnt the acid test really (although he did indeed do well)

I swear you are just trying to wind people up.

You deliberately say the opposite of what EVERYONE else says and you're very rarely right.

Anderson was ******* amazing today, he made the City midfielders look like chumps every time they went near him, I think he was tackled ONCE in the match, and that drew a yellow card.

All that really tells me is City's midfield was crap today, which everyone could see it was. From Cleverly I saw quick, concise, or creative passing, great movement, getting into dangerous positions, creating chances on goal, having shots, or tracking back.

From Anderson I saw getting the ball, little pressure on him, average passing, little end product. He wasn't bad, but very impressive, when the other teams midfield is playing so poorly, very impressive should mean more than not completely screwing up. People consistantly say Song had another great game, when he does smeg all except not screw up. Not screwing up is the bare minimum required to be called having an average game, nothing more or less. Getting the ball, having little trouble with opposition players and passing off the responsibility to others is nothing more than average.

De Jong was playing very very deep for much of the game, closer to a 4-1-4-1 I guess, and he came out to demolish people who got past the other midfielders(which wasn't a challenge today). I don't think Utd had more than 5 minutes when they couldn't get to within 10 yards of City's box without breaking a sweat. Barry actually put a bit more pressure on than Milner or most of the midfield did tonight, too little too late. I've rarely seen City so inept and toothless in midfield, upfront, sure, midfield, not really.

You need to look more closely.

Keep the £35mil for sniejder and just play cleverly lol

However well TC did - We didnt play against a Chelsea or even an Arsenal (who are both usually pretty good in CM positions) without considering Euro opposition - which to be fair, has to be SAF's main focus

Even without considering that, you also have to cosnider that IF Anderson and Cleverly are the two "main" choices.....and Anderson still has to convince regularly imo (a good game today but some bad mistakes also), what happens when Cleverly /Anderson ...or both, are out for one reason or another (without considering possible long term issues)

Would love Utd to still aquire an experienced box to box / Attacking / flair CM player in the remaining 3 weeks of the window

Cleverly and Anderson can still learn a huge amount by playing regularly in the less serious EPL games together (esp home games, which should be easier to win) and see how they get on

So you are saying that Anderson played badly, or that cleverly didnt blast over a shot or two? Please substantiate.

Anderson was good, nothing more, nothing less.

Cleverley blasted a couple(?) of awkward shots over, nobody would have kept them down. Everything else he did was very impressive. You seem hung up on silly things.

I don't get the logic, so Cleverly might be good enough, but what if he gets injured..... what if you spend £35mil on a fairly over rated central midfield player, and he gets injured? Whats the difference, someone is good enough, or they aren't, and if they are, replacing them with a 35mil player is ridiculous, you'd be better off buying a younger player with potential as backup.

I still think people heavily over estimate Sneijder's ability, he's pretty lazy, and stats wise people here mostly see him in the champs league, where he's had one great season in terms of winning the champs league. In terms of being the main playmaker, freekick taker, and getting a heck of a lot of the ball he's scored and assisted an incredibly average amount for the type of player he is in a multi title winning. I mean, stack him up to guys playing a similar role in England, VDV, Lampard, Gerrard, and he doesn't really come close. 20 goal a season Lampard, 10-15 assists, Sneijder is lucky to pass 5 goals, and 5 assists.

Cleverly was heavily involved in the equaliser, as in got the assist iirc, at the end of a very good move in which he was involved. He helped retain posession with great passing when in tight situations other players would have had trouble getting the ball to a Utd player or not running into trouble.

When does missing the target mean playing badly? There isn't a player out there that hits the target with every shot.

To be fair to the young lad, i heard he was Fergie's MoTM against Barcelona last week. Didn't watch the game sadly, but if your wanting to judge against anyone, how's about playing in the centre of midfield against the best team in the world, who absolutely dominate matches via their midfield... surely thats an acid test? i know pre-season etc etc, but they did have Iniesta playing and Thiago and plenty of their other first choices. I doubt Barca suddenly switch off how good they are because its pre-season.

Potential further back than Cleverly ......thats completely pointless, apart from putting MORE games at risk from lack of experience, and the younger player not as easily able to learn from Cleverly (as Cleverly would be able to glean a lot more from a much more experienced player)

As I stated, Utd have to aim for Barca and RM and the like by buying better players than we already have, not even more potential (which Utd already have in Pogba and bad boy Morrison)

The fact that Utd only meet the likes of Barca once a year (and no way back that year if Utd loose) , if we are lucky over two legs, that means the added quality required becomes even more essiental ...ie cant afford to throw away the opportunites - it would be different if Utd were aiming for Chelsea or Arsenal, as there is potential to meet them numerous times a season so playing less experienced players get a chance to grow 1st hand

I wasnt knocking the guy at all - I think he was a great prospect for the future but imo would be a lot of pressure on the young lad to put him in such a prominant position 1st season playing for Utd

Re Barca game - while I noted you didnt watch, Iniesta, Xavi and Messi didnt play so it was a pretty mix and match side that Utd beat last week :)

looks like he played all 90 minutes to me.
