Greta Thunberg

Greta Thunberg I have a lot of mixed feeling about her.
She has a important message and if she can get the job done im ok with it but we have had loads of people before her talking about climate, pollution and change and load along here some people even younger but they did not get plastered all over the place, what made greta different? was it because of the key time, age or something else.

She is not the first or only person talking about pollution but acts that way which can be annoying.

I feel she and her family are more interested in the fame then the message,
Does she really need to miss school to get her message across.

I would have liked her to actually do something, maybe plant a few trees, work with people bring to promote and roll out schemes. Do something usful.

she reminds me of the annoying youtube stares that jump on a message to get a few likes.

Oh, absolutely. Imagine how many NHS workers' jobs depend on the tobacco, alcohol and fizzy drinks industries

One can only applaud Greta Thunberg and Sir David Attenborough for not criticising them.
lol
The first thing I saw when I opened this thread, I almost fell over.

Or it may be people just shrug there shoulders and think why bother when there are countries like India and China polluting the hell out of the planet and we dont see any real change taking place there.

Which is why i think we need to start with science and engineering.
Cheep unlimited power would be like cream donuts to a fat kid for developing countries and those with the best part of 3 Billion people between them. If we could move the planet over to cleaner energy then thats a lot of the battle.

But we would rather pump trillions into the war machine that keeps the middle east so much of a pleasant place!!

you do have a point, UK could become 100% clean but it wont make a lot of difference if places like India and china dont do the same but we need to try and get other to do the same.

Most governments are just lazy and wait till its too late or just cant be bothered unless forced.
Recycling for example, 25 years when I was a kid I use to watch a show called captain planet and would wonder why the local council does not have a scheme recycling or anything in place to reduce pollution, guess how long it took to put something in place a child was thinking about. 24 years is how long it too the local council to put something useful in place.

Long thread..

But my 2c, i don't think she's raising the awareness much. It just feels like more, "plastic, bad, coal bad". Nothing about what really could happen as a result. And no attention being given to comsuption. I watch mainstream news a bit, and it's just another story about her and some fight against "evil" or whatever.

Hopefully its just a temporary thing and unrelated to her necessary good work but I am getting worried that dealing with the barrage of abuse from right wing trolls, racists and fascists hiding behind climate scepticism is having its toll on Greta.

Solidarity Greta, you struggle for climate justice for the marginalised people of the work is needed now more than ever.

I agree; some small-minded, selfish, jealous people will never give up

Hmmm, don't have much of an opinion on her personally, she's due in Bizzol soon - but I won't be down there to see her.

What does seem quite noticeable though, is that there seems to be an almost cult-like following of her; and whenever anyone tries to suggest that she's targeting the wrong countries, then all hell breaks loose.

Fair play to her though, she's certainly getting about a bit - but maybe she ought to head to China or India to speak about global warming as well?

The consumption happens here... and we have a consumption based economy, so it's logical to ignore the suppliers and hit the consumers.

That said obviously those countries are becoming consumers in their own right, China seems to be doing quite a bit of work in that regard, India seems to be ignoring it.

Like on twitter or something? I ask cause i genuinely have no idea. I imagine she's been called "stupid brat" etc, which is pointless, but not really an issue. Probably a good thing if anything, for the publicity.

Trolling today isn't always trolling though, but is labelled as is. I can imagine those who worked hard and saved, will want to indulge and spend at some point. Being told they shouldn't because of climate change would probably get most people fired up.

Though i'm not entirely sure what she ever says, as i posted previously. All i've seen is her saying we need to change.

She'd receive less abuse from right wing trolls if she didn't cosy up so much to left wing extremists...
Greta pulling a grumpy face at Trump & being the darling of failed socialists isn't helping the climate movement.
Everyone broadly agrees that using less natural resources, not polluting for the sake of it, having more trees etc etc are good things.
The politicisation of the climate movement, captured perfectly in the above images, is the most likely reason it will fail IMO.

. . .
Do you have lots of examples of Greta Thunberg "cosying up to left wing extremists"? Care to share?

Pulling a grumpy face at Trump characterises many people; the man is a liability to everyone.

So, Greta Thunberg kinda expresses the viewpoint of "everyone" then?

It is quite remarkable how much hatred Greta Thunberg manages to elicit from right wing trolls

Most adults just don't like seeing children exploited for political purposes, if they have an argument give us the science (excluding artificial computer models) rather than acted out speeches about how we'll all die if we don't act immediately (ie. hand over more national powers to international socialism). Nearly every scaremongering prediction the ice age/global warming/climate emergency movement has ever made has never come to pass hence their need to continually rebrand it. It's just the same sort of project fear rubbish we've seen with Brexit, only the bed wetters (and children who don't know any better) fall for it over and over again.
