Greta Thunberg

You jest

But the Russia literally just announced this new nuclear weapon has gone in to service:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-50927648

This all comes at a time when the whole network of arms control agreements inherited from the Cold War is collapsing.

One crucial treaty - the New START agreement - is due to expire in February 2021. Russia seems willing to extend the agreement but the Trump administration has so far appeared sceptical.

With a whole new generation of nuclear weapons at the threshold of entering service, many believe not just that existing agreements should be bolstered, but that new treaties are needed to manage what could turn into a new nuclear arms race.

97% of scientists aren't wrong, we are dead already, this is scary stuff

99% of scientists thought the sun went around the Earth and Galileo Galilei spent the rest of his life under house arrest for suggesting otherwise, i cannot stress enough as someone who was in the field for a while, SCIENCE IS NOT A CONSENSUS

Just because 99 is bigger than 97 doesn't make them wrong right? Are you a 3%er?

I believe the climate is changing slightly and we do need to find alternatives to fossil fuels as soon as possible (Nuclear is my preferred choice), but the effects are wholly and completely exaggerated so that companies can make a profit from the general population and activists can virtue signal and make themselves feel superior.

Not everyone is aware though. Now more people are. There will also be some people who were previously aware and have now changed their behaviour as a result.
I imagine that's pure assumption on your part.

Or have you met people who changed their lives after watching Greta on TV? I'd say that if that has happened at all, it'll be one person in millions.

I came across this doing the rounds earlier:

Rioting, nuclear war, Siberian winters in the UK by 2020.

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2004/feb/22/usnews.theobserver
Feb 4th 2004: Now the Pentagon tells Bush: climate change will destroy us

We've been hearing these sorts of predictions since the 1970's when anyone around at that time will tell you the scare was all about imminent ice age. The scare stories always change but the predictions always end up being about as accurate as Baba Vanga.

But...how is that possible? Everyone knows that nobody was aware of climate change until Greta the Magnificent, The Holy One, The Saviour, started preaching in 2018.

Obviously the calendar is now BGT and AGT, but should we count 1 AGT as the year of her birth or the year she started preaching?

In fairness, though, the ice age predications had next to nothing to do with actual scientists. I was around at that time and I remember it. The current situation with climate change is different in that respect. There is an issue now (though nowhere near the imminent demise of all life on Earth, blah blah, Chicken Little).

Climate concern is the emotional plague of the times. Which means there are fortunes at stake and to be made. Im betting on surprise gains from oil and coal (the usual paradox).

Keep the population in constant fear of something, the boogie man, terrorists, asteroids, climate change, knife crime, as if there wasnt any of these things before they were heavily publicised. Makes us easier to control.
Used to just be the devil they would use until they replaced religion with politicians
