Grim Dawn - ARPG

I remember when I first played it, one of the things (and this might sound daft) that I really liked was that the currency was iron bits.

Why on earth have I been wasting my time playing db3 season after season.

This is a question I always ask myself when I go back for a season. I've always felt the action in D3 was done better than GD. It felt smoother to me, and as if more was going on, in contrast to GD which didn't feel as smooth and was slower paced. But GD is far more interesting in, well, everyway, there's also far more to it. This is of course coming from someone who's not amazing at the game, so take with some salt. But i know I'm not the only one who thought D3 was smoother and faser paced, as the person I've played both with thought the same.

I always find that with D3, I'll start off in a season doing my own thing, running whatever I get dropped, then I'll have to start building "a build" fairly soon and be stuck with that. Then grind levels and gems. I end up feeling like I'm not playing a game, I'm just looking at numbers going up. Whereas on GD, I just go in and enjoy it. I've never "built" anything and I'll run around doing quests and playing the game. I've spent more time on D3 than GD, but feel like I've had more game time on GD.

GD is an extremely fun game that allows and invites experimentation. I have a few hundred hours in the game now and most was softcore but recently I only play hardcore. Trying to get my first 100 character right now on hardcore, highest being 74. GD is slower that D3 but its by design. D2 is far slower than D3 too if you compare. I think D3 became, as you have already stated, about the numbers over gameplay. I actually think about GD and my choices, where in D3 its just meh.

Out of curiosity. @loftie and @MouthBoy I'm guessing that D3 stands for Diablo 3 ? If so, since you both been playing Grim Dawn, have either of you tried the Mod that turn Grim Dawn into something similar as to D2 ? The person that made the mod was inspired by Diablo 1 and Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction. The Mod is called Reign of Terror and can be found over at Crate Entertainment Forums, if either of you would be interested and not played it already that is !

I know of the mod but never played it myself. I hear it is very well done though.

Also heard of it and not played it. My D2 experience is very limited as I only played it a few times. I think if D3 was more interesting then I would have tried it, but I was never that interested in the story. Unlike with GD where I liked the story - even if I've not finished the expansions!
And yea D3 was me shortening diablo 3.

I really enjoyed the GD story, it's something a lot of ARPG don't put enough value against. Once I have completed the story I rarely take the games to the loot fest they become. GD was the exception many toons made.

Currently enjoying Wolcen though. It's just fun for some reason.

You can also use this website to check some stats as devotion shrines etc. Grim Tools, All you need is to upload your character and it will check and show you which you have found and not. The character has to be in a normal game though and not a modded game (although can get passed that with a mod that's called Grim Stash). But Grim Tools is useful to check how you want to make your build, check armor and a very detailed game map if missing things etc.

Thanks for detailed explanation will give it a go. Cheers.

72 hours on Steam on this. Reading this thread got me reinstalling it now...

I donated the Kickstarter page for GD back in 2012 and got the loyalty key in 2016. I haven't even loaded at all and only started playing it last week. What a mistake lol.
