Growing Chillies

quick question, do chillies go red on the plant or once picked? ive got a couple that look ready to be picked now but their still green.

They'll ripen on the plant naturally. You can ripen after picking assuming the chilli has enough nutrients.

If you want red then just leave them on the plant.

IT BURNS MY PRECIOUS!

So that's a simple King prawn red curry with noodles. The single shredded green blob is a Dorset Naga sliced so that it can infuse without breaking up.

Lip burning, stomach warming and each of the king prawns is like a hot lava coal. I think I have a sweat on and my nose is running :D

Luckily it's served with a nice pint of Singha beer which only serves to make it hotter :D

Not sure. NickK what are they?

I want to get different kinds, i have a dwarf Apache just now and a large one, but want different types. Only problem is space, even tho i live in a 3 bedroom house, room isn't exactly fantastic, especially for sun :(

I did have 6 varietys. But 5 have died.

The las one is either a peach Habanero or a thai dragon. I'm hopping it's the peach.

They where all starved of sunlight will hey where tiny and I hink aht's what killed them. Since then the led panels went back on the bay and they are now on a windowsill. Hopping that NickK will do fine. Should get loads of plants from it, then just pick he two strongest to re-pot.

You can get loads of different from here or similar places.

Any thin skinned chill will dry better.

You could try drying a store bought Naga then using it in chocolate :D

Will need to find a shop that sells them, supermarkets round here never break away from the norm, soo damn boring these days.

When it has finished growing chillis for the year, do you prune it back or do you just leave the plant.

Oh also i remember talking to Skeeter (cant mind if it was here or MSN) but he wanted to know what plant had the purple Chilli.

Well here it is

Aurora
Small colourful ornamental, tapered upright fruit about 1.5 inches long ripens from dark purple to orange to red. Easily grown in a pot on the windowsill reaching about a foot high.

When the temps drop, the chilli will stop producing and the leaves may drop. You basically cut the plant like this:

Then over-winter. If they're warm when you do this they'll start growing again:
