Growing Chillies

Lovely pics mate.

The toms u can cut the top off and should stop growing tho becareful of sneaky boogers lol that grow from sides if u dont inspect the plant all the time. I have trimmed most of the leaf branches off mine because there gone funny like urs seem to be doing a bit, its going ok but my prob now is root bound i think so thats why mine isnt doing as good as it was.

Chillis looking good too. Maybe trim a few leaves (better to turn the plant tho now and then) i duno so the sun can reach the fruit maybe i duno. Just an idea.

Yeah the tomato plant got completely out of hand, its some much higher than wide, next time ill keep cuting the tops of and stunt its height a little.

With you with the turning, we spin them every other day to keep the whole plant in sun for a while, impressed with how easy it was to grow the peppers, the toms obviously are a bit harder to keep under control.

Its all a learning curve though and damn well enjoyable too :)

Yeah im loving it. With david and me doing the seed swap i have seeds for apache chilli plant and carrots beetroot and all sorts, im rapidly running out of soil, pots and windowcill spaces lol. All my south ish ones living room and bedroom are almost full. All i have left is north ones, not sure how they will grow but might have to move some there soon. My tigerella tom plants will be moving out the back when time comes as wont have the space to grow lol.

how have you got your basil to grow so well, mine went well for a week or so then just decided to give up and has gone a very light green colour

ive currently got 19 chilli plants and 12 pepper plants, planted late but was going for a next year crop. currently all sitting about a foot tall, had a few green fly attacks but took care of that, also got 4 varieties of strawberry plants growing and a shed load of runners! I love growing stuff! :D

Tomato feed once or twice a week, and watered twice daily.

I forgot to water it regularly for a couple of day and it almost died.

I should really separate it into 3 or 4 pots so the leaves get a little bigger.

Hi,

Smashing pictures Phil! I didn't know that you could grow "compact bushy chilis" Do you know which ones they are?

I have another two little chilis growing from my plant and loads of flowers forming!
The info tag that came with the plant said it was an Apache chili but when I Googled Apache chili the pictures looked nothing like my plant.

The fruits are more like green Birdseye chilis.

Forgive me for this quick question.

As a general rule of thumb how long after the chilli growing do they take to get to an edible stage?

Probs whenever i think, tho i would for mine i think when i think its a inch or 2 id keep checking see if its still growing or not but anything over a inch for any chilli i think is editable tho probs not taste as good as it would be ripe.

No but utube probs has.

Jalapenos well 1 main one has had about 4 flowers now, i think they pollinated ok as i think there growing jals now or well soon. One is i think for defo tho as flower came off and is now growing somit tiny green mass where flower used to be so. :)

Another one starting to flower a bit so gave that a shake of the plant and flicked the flower gently a bit.

I think if i can get em all to fruit the 6 plants of jals i should i think have about 50+ in a month or two. :)

Was wondering u reckon i try floging some to the corner shop or somit tell em im growing some and they can have some to sell. Or wont they buy and sell em on?

I think I finally have maturing flowers producing pollen as I've had something dusty fall from them. The stamen also seems to be opening up for the first time.

The Dorset Naga seems to be a lot more picky about it's watering and feeding schedule than the Jalapeno.

Any idea when u can tell when to pollinate flowers? Because i just do em when i see em big and open. Like is there a special time during the flowers development, any tell tale signs when its rdy to be pollinated?

I lost my chilli plant in a recent breakup... Lol... :D

I take it starting to grow them now (indoors) would be a completely ridiculous idea? And full of fail?
I never really knew what I was doing but the last one grew quickly, and the chillis that appeared, looked like chillis... :|
