GT200 GTX280/260 "official specs"

I thought the GTX280 was only going to be 30%-50% quicker

Based on leaked possibly faked results :D Were still waiting for *real* numbers. The spec of the ATI 4000 range has completely changed in a week from the previous rumour after all.

benches are always best...

though knowing TweakTown, they'll prolly break NDA and give us the info 2 or so days before release... they did it with the 8800GTS 512, and they turned out to be pretty correct

That does sound good, i have a buddy who'll buy my GTS for 100£, so that would actually make a reasonable upgrade, not that i really need one.

Depends what you call reasonable. $399 = £300+ over here with duty, vat, been ripped off cause we are not americans etc.

Maybe even £350 at launch if in short supply just like the 8800GT went up £40 within hours of launch.

And over your, I assume G92 GTS, it might give you 20-30% boost. Worth £250????????????

Price already been meantioned ealier on in the thread.

A couple of other shops in EU have it priced at €599

Never knew this until a few weeks ago when i made a quick spec list for a american friend and couldnt believe between 10-50 quid cheaper  and then they get this mail rebate which can take a large chunk out, but apparently not worth the hassle of collecting the tokens but still.

Prices will fall, i really doubt nvidia will able to sell these if the ATi parts have the perforamnce that the rumours suggest.

R700 may turn out to be a decent competitor after all :D

Unless 280/260 going to be under 250 i will go for a 4*** and if they not at least 25% faster than a gt i will more likely get one of those as my 320 needs changing.

I am basically just going to see how they perform vs their price. I am not so much focused on having the best money can buy, as more the best value for the money,

5 percent of extra performance for 100 pounds for example is not good value for money (an example only, before anyone jumps on that).

I am a little amazed though that in Mass effect and a few other games I am running my 320MB 8800 at 1920x1200 with 16xAF and 2XAA and it seems pretty damn smooth. A few games like Age Of Conan are no go with AA though :p

BFG GeForce 9800 GX2 in America is £267 + $5 shipping

You'll be getting a 4*** then cause no way are the 260/280 going to be under £250 for maybe a year or two. Look how long it took the 8800GTX which was £450 at launch to come down below £250.

I'm with you which is why I bought a 8800GT to replace my 8800 GTS 320Mb. I got £97 for my GTS and bought the GT for £150. Well worth the extra £53. ;)

I only had it for a couple of months though before I managed to buy a GTS g92 for £117 and sell my GT for £120 :D

All high end stuff never stacks you on price/performance ratio. It is always the mid range which gives you that.

For example, the GX2 is £329 on ocuk and the GT is £112. Ths price ratio is almost 3x but the GX2 does not give 3x the performance of the GT.
