GT86/GR86/BRZ

Did that facelift add much? Is it worth saving more and going for it or is the 2012 - 2016 model good enough? Just want to run a fun car for a bit before growing up!

Power is identical and handling is pretty much identical too unless you go for the Blue Edition with the Sachs/Brembo kit. Money-wise it'd be better bang for your buck to get a 2012-2016 on low mileage.

I got a 30k 2013 model for £14k from Toyota Approved Used, that price included the £250 tax, a full service and a years additional warranty.

Just keep in mind if you get anything less than a 2014 plate then you'll likely have to put it through the valve spring recall if it hasn't been done already.

Question for those that have changed the intake. Which one did you get?

I'm considering getting a Takeda Momentum.

Just a panel filter is generally enough for this car as the stock intake is really well designed.

I know a lot of people use the Blitz kit with Suction Filter however, either that or the Injen Intake

and that's the dilemma... it's the same with many cars... But, what do you do? You know that removing it is technically a MOT fail, so that's step 1... But then what do you do with insurance? Either declare the mod and you've effectively admitted your car isn't road-worthy (non MOT compliant) or don't declare and back to arguments about uninsured due to fraudulent insurance statements...

Most the time just a declaration of "Aftermarket Exhaust" or "Aftermarket Manifold" will cover and Insurers wont mind as long as it's got an MOT on it.

Back to your point about the MX5, I've got an 86 and my dad's got a Mk3 MX5 (Mk1 Mx5 before that too).

I feel like they're both really fun cars. It doesn't bother me having a roof because even just with the 86 having the windows down is a really pleasant drive out on a summers day. Granted the 86 is a fair bit bigger than a 5, it still handles fairly similarly and remains planted thanks to the low center of gravity.

Just ordered a whiteline bush after reading up on them. Only £20 new from someone @ PartBox directly (rather than their website, he did me a good deal :p) so can't really go wrong. If I don't like it, it'll be up for sale on the owners club :)

Car is booked in on the 24th June for recall now. Not going to Macclesfield anymore as they keep telling me they haven't had the training even when I know for a fact they have because they've already done an owners club members car..

Spark Plugs & Oil Filter to be changed too so I can have it as the 6 Year/60k Service.

Are they lending you another GT86? And are they giving you a discount for fitting the spark plugs and oil filter?

They haven't been given an 86 to use as a courtesy car as of yet so the people having the recall done currently are getting an Aygo unfortunately :( Fingers crossed they should have it by the time mines in for the recall though as they said they're expecting one.

£335 "discounted" for the service, still rather steep in my eyes considering it's just for 4x Spark Plugs, Brake Fluid, Oil Filter and a Pollen Filter, which I can find online all OEM apart from brake fluid which is a premium brand for:

Spark Plugs: £75
Brake Fluid: £25
Oil Filter: £12
Pollen Filter: £34 (Which they most likely wont change if it looks fine)
-------------
Total - £146

£189 for the labour and a very expensive stamp :(

They said they'll have my car for the whole week which I'm not bothered about as long as I get a courtesy car. Can confirm if it's an Aygo it's going to driven "rather spiritedly" to minimize boredom

I guess any discount is good. And the main thing is the recall gets done perfectly.

I had an Aygo automatic when they did my back light the other month. The long pause between 1st and 2nd gear was infuriating. I think I only did about 20 miles in it.

My local dealer said they were getting in 2 86's as courtesy cars for this recall, so I would hope that I get one, they're also aware I can't drive manuals due to health reasons.

True about the discount! Originally said £380 over the phone but I asked for it to be done cheaper so he went and checked and got back to me saying he could make it £335.

Wonder if they may get one manual and one auto 86? Either way I'm sure they'll look after you :)

I'd honestly like to try a Hilux for a week but doubt it'll happen!

Good point, I had forgotten about the recall. They're also already most likely going to drain it of oil in that process too

Yep, takes out the cost of the oil in the service. Just they keep the oil filter the same.

Same goes for fresh coolant and an aircon re-gas which I'm happy about as saves me paying £160 to get it done (Uses the annoyingly "special" gas) before I sell up as I never use aircon.

Aircon you will need to pay for additional gas if a regas is needed, the machine will take out the gas and put back in the same amount. I've just had mine regassed last week as I didn't want to wait for the recall to get it checked.

I was told they'd be re-gassing it with new gas, wonder if it just depends on the stealership :P

So, seems like I'm not getting an 86 for my courtesy car as they don't have one yet and I don't qualify for their insurance "requirements" for it :( (Even though I drive one already?!)

Not too fussed, as I get to have the new corolla for a week instead :P

A lot more people crash Ibizas. GT86s are pretty uncommon so probably have favorable statistics.

Very much true, but still surprising given I was only 18 insuring 200hp RWD! :D

Getting quotes for an S3 seem to come up at £1900 with an aftermarket exhaust and a map for the next car. Surprised me again given this time I have added an extra 10k Miles and have a non-fault accident declared
