** GTA IV: It feels like a chore to continue playing SP mode thread**

Beginning to get tedious for me, I grate my teeth at some of the missions, can't reconcile the idea that the same designers that made the amazing Three Leaf Clover came up with some of the others. Thinking of giving it a break to give my "play MGS2 and 3 before 4" plan a chance of succeeding.

im not bored of this game yet as im only about 5 hours into it, in fact its just starting picking up for me but i will say this: the controls are absolute ****

its the must clumsy contorl system i've ever come across and well worth stopping it from getting all these perfect 10/10 reviews.

driving - joke
bikes - lol
aiming - clumsy as hell
cover system - doesnt work that well, sometimes you cant even shoot past what your hiding behind

and the worst offender of all: auto centering camera... seriously what the hell is that about. at least give an option to switch it off. its annoying when your walking about and want to see around you and it doesnt even work properly when you expect it to work in your favour eg. when you driving and turn your car, you just see the side of your car still have to swivel the camera yourself.

i am however still playing it, i do like the story and its pretty funny i think, plus i like the free roaming aspect and have enjoyed gta games in the past.

Im sorry but don't criticise the game because you're crap at it. I've managed driving cars and bikes fine, aiming couldn't be more simple (manual or autoaim) and if you can't shoot past something, it means you're behind a large object, move to the edge and you should be able to shoot out fine.

I got it a few days ago and I've barely touched it, been replaying my old games like Dead Rising and Fight Night Round 3 which I have completed before, I just don't feel like playing it.

Main thing that annoyed me was the date misson. DATES? Why is GTA all of a sudden turning into a life simulator? TV, shows, bowling, dates...what the? It was my first time doing that mission and I was instantly bored.

I'd imaging going at such speeds while trying to turn a corner in real life would have the same result, not a pretty one. Its an improvement over the old games and I find it more fun this way.

i find the car handling very good nice and solid and rewarding
bike handling i find quite poor and very annoying when trying to drive and shoot
i am not crap at the game either i dont think

For the most part i love the controls, after a bit of practice i can easily pick off the driver of an oncoming car from behind the wheel. The cover system is more than a little clumsy though, almost seems like the auto aim is there to compensate for this.

The auto aim system is pretty poor, they should have made it so you can free aim then press a button to lock on to a target as it does with the auto aim.

True, thats the only problem I have. In the heat of battle the auto-aim always makes me aim at the wrong guy. I can't help but hold down the trigger instead of half way to free aim.

I couldn't agree more, they need to get back to basics and get rid of all the rubbish.

I know there's a lot people play it who probably don't get out too much, but they've added way too much un-necessary and boring fluff that detracts from the core gameplay which made the game such a success.

They've bodged the combat system as well it's just too clumsy, will be much better on PC with mouse.

But most people ar complaining that they've got rid of too much! The dates/activities are all optional bar the first tutorial one.

I really wonder how this game got so many "omg buy it now" reviews, its good yeah but imo nowhere near being a 10/10 game. Be lucky if it was an 8/10 game.

I remember gamespy did a look back on mgs2 a year after release and admitted they got sucked into the hype and rated it too highly, wonder how many reviewers are now coming to the same conclusion with this game.

For the most part the controls do feel clunky and the camera doesn't help matters, its fun trying to get niko to walk upstairs and the camera view reversing the controls and making him walk downstairs. Combat system is also pretty bad (as said above) with you sometimes shooting what you're hiding against.

Even the ai for the cops is pretty weird at times, i walked upto a guy and shot him through the head roughly 5 feet away from a patrolling police car and they did nothing...they did however spring into action when i stole a car from next to the dead guy roughly 10 seconds later.

:confused::confused:
