GTA V Multiplayer thread (360, XBOX ONE, PS3 and PS4)

Sounds a bit rubbish. ;/

It is at the moment, it's just GTAIV multiplayer with the addition of missions and a few other features, that right now feel a bit irrelevant or tacked on for the sake of it. There's just no atmosphere in it, due to the lack small amount of players and the lack of peds and traffic

I'm sure it will improve though with the addition of DLC.

Well whether they choose to charge for them or not I guess is up to them, but it needs more features/tweaks to the existing ones or to allow more players. It definitely needs a new lobby system, one that doesn't feel like it's taking you out of the game world. Stuff like that they'll add for free I'm sure, but the DLC they talk about adding to make the world bigger, I'm sure they'll charge for it, even if it's a small fee

For those who did manage to get on how long did it take? I was trying last night but with the waiting for players and other loading it didn't seem to be going anywhere so I quit. Though I am wondering if that was me just being impatient.

You can launch online from hitting start and entering the online tab. Then from there you can choose friends session, crew session etc. And actually also solo session which was getting people through the tutorial section (but it limits the missions you can open).

And if your in a free roam already you can enter a mission marker choose to host and then invite either crew, friends, current session, matched skill level etc.

Thanks for that, I couldn't get on last night at all to do the tutorial section. Will try again tonight but if I still can't might try hosting one just to get it out the way.

This does sound worrying as I didn't particularly find gta4 fun online. You could have a laugh with friends on it but always just felt like free roam with friends which to me has a short shelf life. Maybe once everything is up and running it will seem better. Shame if not though as I was looking forward to the online even more than the single player.

If they have struggled with creating gta online on this gen would have to ponder about whether there will be any online dlc or whether they will launch a next gen gta online which has more features.

Ah ok thanks. I was really confused by this last night as I thought that all selecting a friends session seemed to do was place me in an existing session where a friend was playing but this still meant that there may not be enough free slots to invite a full crew / party into.

Does anyone know if you can do things like bring a helicopter into a mission instance? This is the sort of thing I was hoping for. So for example finding a chopper in free roam and then riding it into a mission?

and then GTA online should have come for next gen, 64 players, fully populated city etc, maybe £25 digital download only and they would recoup way more in micro transactions.

No thanks,Too many game devs taking this route just to get more money out of us with Micro transactions, overpriced DLC and all that crap.

Not been able to try online yet though, wont let me join on PS3. :(

Any idea if they are planning to ramp up the pedestrian and traffic numbers? Seems like the only game breaker at the mo.

Events gradually unlock as you rank up through the levels. So maybe it wont seem so barren when everyone gets in and ranks up.

Things like car and boat pickups take place in free roam I think. So a NPC wants a vehicle delivered and everyone rushes to the spawn to try and grab it and deliver it to the docks for $$$$$. More stuff like that in free roam will make things more lively.

I think the variety of the actual death matches and races is really good for a start. The content creator will flesh it out even more when it launches.
For now its defiantly best to host the sessions if you can so that you can turn off stuff like the rubber band catchup. Plus you have all the sports events included to play as well.

They also need to document how everything works a lot better. Stuff like betting keeps being missed by people because they don't realise you need to hit A to confirm the bet.

From what I've seen of the missions so far you haven't been able to do this.
I'm thinking perhaps Heists will let you do this like in SP mode where you have to go and get certain vehicles for the job. So you need a chopper, bring your own chopper.

hopefully

It still relies heavily on playing with a group of friends though which is where it seems to fail at the moment. You can't always have a group of friends online, and when you can't, you're playing with randoms who seem to just want to do their own thing, which is fair enough.

The missions right now feel too much like they are just offline missions in an online world

Played a few hours and got up to rank 8. Its a bit naff so far, GTA4 online was much better (Cops and Crooks mod was ace). I am sure it will improve over time, but at the moment its more hassle than its worth.

Well perhaps I'm just really lucky but I managed to get online last night with relative ease (messed up when entering the first race lobby once but I just switched back to single player then back again).
Anyway my initial thoughts like may others are that the world is very light on NPC's etc. and I got killed twice by some griefer in the first 10 minutes (before taking revenge). But theres certainly a lot of potential there and I think I'm one of the few that actually liked the character creation system (I found it quite funny). I think as soon as things settle down, heists are added and people begin to organise themselves it will really pick up.
