GTAV performance thread.

Not sure if the latest patch has done something, but I'm loving the Nvidia PCSS shadows now!!

After I read up on them on the geforce GTA5 guide, and then went outside in the sun (in the real world!) and noticed how shadows from trees etc actually look - they are really spot on! I thought they were way too blurry before, but they really aren't, and are a very good approximation of reality.

As an added bonus With Nvidia PCSS shadows and the shadows detail at the highest setting (basic menu, not advanced) the 'pop in detail box' that surrounds the player is virtually unnoticeable now for me too.

I recommend anyone in doubt - read the geforce guide, try them out, and next time you're out in that real world thing and it's sunny, take note of how soft and undefined most shadows are, especially from trees and at different times of day.

Yep the AMD option is way too sharp and dark.

I actually like the "softest" option the most.

Only problem with the nVidia option is it costs the most performance wise.

I have this issue with my 7990. When playing, gpu1 runs at 501mhz, gpu2 is fine and runs permanently at 1000mhz. I was using the latest drivers, so rolled back to the previous to see if that fixed it and I thought it did for 5 minutes, then it changed back to 501mhz and wouldn't go back up.

I don't know if the launcher is interfering in some way, because if I take screenshots or video with Afterburner, it captures 2 separate images/video's one of the game and one of the launcher. As the Launcher is only windowed mode, it would only effect the first gpu. So I have my suspicions that it is launcher related, but couldn't say for absolute sure.

I am losing a fair few frames because of this. I can't put my finger on it and not sure if anyone else has/is suffered/suffering the same fate.

For note I don't think it's crossfire related per say, because if I go to windowed mode, gpu2 stops, but gpu1 stays at 501mhz and then I get sub 30fps shame.

If I didn't have this issue, I would actually be very happy with how the game performs. Story of my life with this card though, I've had nothing but problems with it since the moment I bought it. Can't wait for AMD to finally pull their finger out and drop the 390x so I can get off this monstrosity!

Do you force SMAA?

I'm guessing he's running a sweetFX config. I am too. SMAA is great. I also get terrible stutter with any amount of in game msaa, really weird. Sweetfx and SMAA is smooth as silk on my 780ti SLI setup.

I'm noticing stutter with MSAA also - I'll grab SweetFX and force SMAA. Is it easy to do?

Sweetfx used to be really easy. It's got more complicated recently and yiu have to rename files and ****. All I can advise is going to the page linked below, use Kputts config and follow the instructions to the letter, including tweaking a file to disable it until the game fully loads or the intro menus stutter like a bitch. You turn it on and off with the scroll lock key in game by default. If you get stuck give us a shout :)

If you've never used sweetfx before it can be a bit bewildering at first but it's worth it. Learn how each setting affects things and then manually adjust yourself. Less is more and very subtle tweaks are best. There are some issues with windows 8 I believe, but windows 7 works for everything I've tried.

I've been struggling with getting smooth gameplay with vsync in this game and did some testing.

If I load up a game and vsync in already on, I get stutter (small drops of 2-5fps) and rubberband feeling when driving.

If I have vsync off, load a savefile and only apply vsync while ingame, I get solid smooth 60fps with no stutter or rubberbanding. But If I die and the game loads up outside a hospital, I get the stutter again.

Ive tried vsync off, get great fps but over 60 can look like 30-40 on my 60hz monitor. Capping fps works but creates worse tearing than just having vsync off by itself.

:(

I tried using RadeonPro but for some reason it won't let me enable SweetFX for gtav - Not sure if I'm doing something wrong. The 'Enable SweetFX. button is just greyed out

You gota point RP to the sweetfx folder, and enable a hotkey.. To use smaa also you don't need to use sweetfx with RP.

Also make sure radeonpro is running in 64bit mode or it won't work with gta5.

The best experience for me (4k-60hz) is disable in-game vsync and use (normal NOT adaptive) vsync in the Nvidia panel.

Solid 60 FPS, no drops no tearing and no warping with my settings

I have noticed that my [email protected] with HT enabled gets almost maxed out and sits at 80% a lot of the time when i play GTA V. The game seems like a core hungry monster. Mean while my 780 will sit at 60-80% in some areas and 98% in others. Looks to me the game might be cpu bottlenecked from time to time. Now i want a 6 core :P

AB works fine still for me. :S

Honestly it doesn't make any sense. From launch until the second patch I've always had AB running and no issues. After this last patch the game hitched and stuttered a bit here and there. Might have been coincidence, but as soon as I disabled it the game runs beautifully. I even turned up the msaa :D Can't go back to fxaa now!
