GTAV performance thread.

The best experience for me (4k-60hz) is disable in-game vsync and use (normal NOT adaptive) vsync in the Nvidia panel.

Solid 60 FPS, no drops no tearing and no warping with my settings

sounds like the gsync and freesync monitors are just a marketing gimmick to boost the price

I've settled on my settings now, has taken me doing little tweaks almost daily but getting a solid 60fps @ 1080 and I'm going to stick to them for now.

Time to start immersing myself in the game, Trevor style!

1440p and my 4930k is like 45% on core one and maybe 30% on the rest. Most of the time the last 4 threads are at zero lol. Game runs at 96hz constant on vsync.

Was doing some testing at 4K trying to get nice settings that will also give me not many drops below 60 FPS. Interestingly an i7 920 at 3.2GHz had about 20% SLI scaling with my two 970s. At 4GHz it was around 60%+

With the 6 core Xeon @ 4.4GHz I was seeing 70-90% in the 5 bench tests. Not bad for an ancient chip ;)

Sadly I cannot test SLI on the 2700K as one of my 970s decided about a month ago that it will just not work on that mobo...

What Xeon part is it?

I have settings that run 60 FPS @ 4K (single Titan X) if you want to try them out

Edit: GTA V doesn't like FRAPS Lol

X5650 (Socket 1366)

As long as you aren't going mad with the VRAM then sure :p

My current settings are basically Grass, Shaders, Shadows, Post Process to High, MSAA off and the rest to maximum. I believe the game reckons about 3300MB VRAM for that.

LOL, no.

How have you fathomed that one out because of what he posted?

I haven't really looked into them if I'm honest but surely they are still overpriced for some "anti-tearing" tech not exactly ground breaking is it?

I'm sure you can give a more knowledgeable reply though with your Titan x and special monitor ;)

Don't just ask me, ask the many other gsync and freesync users who can quite easily notice the difference.

Shock horror, you have to pay more for new tech :o

It's a bit more than anti tearing.

Essentially, the refresh rate of the monitor will match the framerate - one benefit of this is when frames drop low, you don't get the the 'laggyness' (input delay). Ever tried to shoot players when you're dropping down to 30fps or less and the movement in game is about half a second behind your mouse movement?

Basically, it eliminates (or tries to) stuttering, input lag, tearing, motion blur - makes things much much smoother.

Gsync is Not over priced, and it is very much ground breaking. It's all about what you value. If you're happy looking at a tearing jumpy image when the tech exists to remove it, then good for you.

And freesync, is free, but we won't mention that.

Interesting to see the range of CPU usage from one forum member to another. Gathered this from reading through pages 1-12. People are experiencing the following CPU usage.
  • 35-55% usage
  • 90-100% usage
  • 100% usage locked

You could ignore any day one cpu usage reports as the launcher bug was evident in many cases, it would needlessly sit and fully utilise a core. I get 40-60% usage on all 8 threads of a 4770k at 4.6ghz.

From what I've seen, I'm getting a very steady 60-70% usage across all 8 threads of a 2600k at 4.4Ghz. Playing at 1440p Gsyncd at 85Hz (85Hz helps with smoother overall consistency for this title - odd) with SLI 780Ti's. I hit 85fps consistently a lot of the time by the way.

The GPUs peg along at anything between about 60% each to 98% each depending on location.

Have to say I'm pretty happy with all of it. However, I was playing for a bit the other day and noticed my top GPU was running at lower clocks and lower volts for most of the session, and it wasn't throttling as it was under 80 degrees. I played again yesterday and both cores were pegging along at full clock speed and volts at all times. Really weird, but perhaps the game is a bit twitchy at the moment and a few more patches are in order.
