GTAV performance thread.

Ah now I'm with you :)

Have ordered it on DVD me lad as my internet is pretty ****! First time I've done that for a few years!
I understand there are some fairly big patches though, so it still might take me a while.

Yeah the patch took me about an hour on 70mb optic. It started out OK around 5mb then dropped to about 80k.

Wish i had tbh instead of a massive blue glowing pcon all night. 7 dvds though lol. Yeh a 5gb patch takes a while apparantly.

Gonna run some benchies this afternoon with my setup see how it performs

3840x2160
GTX 970 (Stock)
All settings/sliders max'd apart from MSAA/Reflection MSAA which are off (No TXAA)

Average FPS for the 5 passes from in game bench:
X5650 @ 2.6GHz - 31.1, 20.8, 29.8, 32.0, 27.4
X5650 @ 3.7GHz - 31.4, 21.0, 30.9, 32.0, 27.7
2700K @ 3.7GHz - 30.9, 21.5, 30.2, 31.9, 27.2
2700K @ 4.6GHz - 30.9, 21.5, 29.7, 32.0, 27.0

Seem like CPU doesn't matter much at these settings :p

Good information and good to know.

MFAA works well here, I've tried it with 8xMSAA and it clears up jaggies even more without affecting performance.

As far as I understand it (could be wrong) your not doing it right.

MFAA, takes the amount of MSAA you've applied and effectively doubles it at the cost of minimal performance loss.

HOWEVER, if the in game max is MSAA X8, it cant apply more than this value, so to use MFAA you set MSAA to 4X and then MFAA gives you the equivalent of MSAA x8 for free.

(That was my take on the situation. Remember reading it a while ago)

No you don't, you're lying, you need your eyes testing :p

4K removes the requirement of using AA - or so some seem to claim.:D

:p

The need for it is definitely reduced, but not eliminated. It also depends on the game i find, some games look fine with some sort of post processing effect applied, but most need at least x2-x4 AA in my opinion.

Playing GTA V at the moment, 3840x2160P with everything maxed except MSAA and reflective which are at x4 is 50-60FPS Vsync locked. If you lower down to x2 for both it's 60FPS locked pretty much all the time. However, i could see aliasing on my cars windscreen while i was driving and only x4 removed it.
