GTX 1060

Which coolers are not equal. The g1 gaming on the 1070/1080? I am comparing them to there Founders Edition pricing.

no the 1080/70/60 founders coolers
so there should be less margin on 1060 AIB's unless they are cut a better deal
hopefully the reviews dont just assume on prices like last time lol

Wow they actually put founders edition tax on a lower end part, what a joke.

So I'm guessing these will be close to £300 here in the UK. For a x60 card.

Whats next, GTX 1050 3gb Founders for £200? This gen is a joke, bring on 2017 and Vega.

I'm guessing more in the region £260 for 6gb version. This card will certainly kill off RX 480.

i thought that was known for a while...

It was thought that the 3gb versions would not have SLI but the 6gb ones would still support SLI.

This looks like an NVidia marketing ploy to make even more money.

In the past if you had a card that was no longer giving the performance you wanted in games all you had to do was get another for SLI or CF as a cheap upgrade.

Now if you want to upgrade you have to spend a lot more on a GTX 1070 or 1080.

Thats almost £100 more than the 4gb 480s were. I think AMD should have stuck with the 4gb at £180, 4gb is plenty for 1080p. That price looks way more appealing for people on a budget than a £220-250 480 or a £250-300 1060.

Plus knowing AMD the 480 will get a big driver performance boost later this year, putting it equal (ahead?) of the 1060 in DX11 and thrashing it in DX12.

Im kinda in 2 minds about this, on one hand i think, oh well, Xfire / SLI has been broken so long its hardly an issue, then another part of me says, why do they have such arrogance to remove this feature forcing people to their higher products?

For the low end user who maybe upgrades rarely, the option to add a 2nd card to boost performance has always been a good thing, even if the support is bad, eventually a lot of titles get mgpu support, and on the back of the MS announcement of a kinda default mgpu driver, this just smacks of pure arrogance.

I do kinda see why they done this, they want people to spend as much money as possible with them, so they probably hope people will try the smaller cards, like them, eventually need more power and trade up for the bigger cards, its a smart move.

Dunno if it sits well with me though, i like having the option of adding a 2nd card if i need to, yeah support might be a bit hit and miss, but atleast the option is there.

Simply removing this option altogether is a bit rude.

480X was DOA anyhow after the powergate issue, thats probably done enough to tarnish its reputation anyhow.

Even when the AIB customs arrive you will still have people incorrectly telling others that it will blow up their PC if they bring it into the same room as the PC etc...

AMD are like bumbling drunk clowns it seems at times, they go from one mishap to another, always almost getting it right, but ultimately messing up one important thing at the end and leaving everyone wondering WTF

Vega will probably be 1070 performance at 300W TDP - I.E. disappointing, hot and loud. Just look at what AMD can deliver at 150w compared to what NVIDIA can deliver at 150W....

That's shocking, I've got no interest in SLI or Crossfire and never will have, but that's awful for people who have.

That's a really scummy move by NV. Rapidly tuning into M$.

Nvidia - The way we're meant to bend you over.

Nvidia 'the way you're meant to get played'

What a joke, i may finally jump ship if the third party 480's get good reviews. Or hold out for a good deal on a cheap 970. Maybe 180ish that would be nice.

They didn't even get anywhere near almost right. That's the problem.

So the RX480 has 6+1 phase power VS 3+1 on the 1060, 4GB/8GB VS 3GB/6GB, larger BUS and prices start from under £200.

I imagine the Nvidia card will give a few % more performance and people will buy it. The RX480 could well perform better than the 1060 in DX12 titles and as that's the future could still be a good option for some.

Founders edition (Gouging edition) on the 1060 makes it a bit of a joke tbh. I mean the card might be fine, but the pricing is so so bad this time around from Nvidia. Pure greed?

They still got me with the FE 1080 :P

Damn you Nvidia :P

There are brand new ones available for <£200 so finding one at £180 second hand shouldn't be too hard.

Ah tbh I get paranoid about buying second hand cards in case they were heavily oc'ed. The zotac one is available for 200 widely. So I am hoping ocuk might do one of their special deals when they try to clear stock of the older cards.

Still, really disappointed by the pricing of new cards. I got several third party *60's for pretty much 200 quid on release. Now we are probably talking 270-300. Maybe more if a third party 480 is 250. Very sad.

Seems to be the new 970 having got all fancy now with founders flavouring and think the 970 arrived with similar price?
As for "certainly kill off the 480", have you ever been wrong about anything before?

What you forget is the sales already achieved by beating 1060 to market and in bulk quantities. The fact that it is lower priced in a much more price sensitive part of the market will ensure it maintains good sales. DX12 performance is important and yet to be compared on both so common sense would estimate that it will be a close fought battle at this price point.

However migrating console gamers may seek performance in DX12 titles like HOR3 / GOW etc and if the 480 does this better for less money, it may be a problem for Nvidia this time around. Either way 1080p gamers will have good options to choose from.

I just want to know which card is better to buy if i have £250, the gtx1060 or the rx480.

I dont care about red or green, i dont care about power consumption. I care about performance, reliability and conpatibility. Straight answers on a postcard please :)

You will have to wait until the 19th july for proper benchmarks.
