GTX 1060

Does anyone here have the the EVGA 1060 SC?

If so, What are your thoughts on it?

Installed it and immediately bsod! After much head scratching my fat fingers knocked the boot ssd sata cable out!!

Anyway once into Windows I sorted the drivers, benched it in Heaven. Was surprised to see it hitting 2012 MHz on boost without an additional overclock! Played battlefront for an hour and the gpu didn't go over 60c and was very quiet. NB I also reflashed the bios with the new fan settings. Ridiculous performance in battlefront from 120w! Well over 100fps in most maps but I locked it to 60 ultra and gpu was barely audible to achieve this.

Glad to hear you sorted your issues and that your performance is good. I'm really happy with my one as well. I used to have the non-SC version but was thermal throttling like mad, glad I swapped. I Honestly can't fault the card.

It runs so 'cold' that I cannot see the need for a 2-3 fan setup. It was noisy before I reflashed the bios, so the new software and 0db mode help.

Have you tried an OC? Not that it needs it yet but I like to play! If so what did you get?

1060 came today, went with the Zotac mini. Not had a chance to try it yet as I'm in the middle of painting but will post my impressions today or tomorrow when it's installed.

Im getting tempted by one of these cards. my Asus Strix 970 has been RMA'd twice within 4 weeks and being honest im waiting on my replacement coming ( hopefully tomorrow ) and im tempted just to sell it and buy a 1060 to tide me over till after xmas then ill upgrade and my lad can get the 1060

I just took delivery of a MSI 1060 Armor OC, installed it and its running great.

Can someone explain this GPU Boost tech to me? The card is described as having: Core Clock: 1544MHz; Boost Clock: 1759MHz but its running between 900 and 1300 ish ingame (no framerate issue though)

Is this because its not being pushed and will ramp up under heavier load? Im only using a lowly 1050p rez monitor for the moment since my Dell died on me.

Very happy with the card though. It looks great and I love the idle fan design, its very quiet.

Okay, so still very much on the fence on whether to go 480 or 1060, but 1060 is in stock so that's a plus.

I've been looking at the EVGA 1060 single fan cards as if i do go through with downsizing to itx the smaller card would work out well, but, is the SC version worth the extra £21 over the regular?? Could i just OC the standard EVGA card to the same as SC anyway?

Thanks

SC has much better cooler. Worth the extra IMO. Yes you can OC the cheaper EVGA but don't expect it to run as cool or quiet as the SC.

There's really that much difference between the two single fan cards? There's me thinking you're paying £21 just for the extra core clock! Is there anywhere that shows the differences? Thanks!

Can't find reviews of the standard 1060 but it stands to reason it won't perform as good. The fans are the same it's the heatsinks that are different.

I have read in the net that that the std evga design doesn't have as effective heat pipes/heat sink but I can't give you a validated source only user opinion.

The SC EVGA has a lot better cooling solution than the cheaper version. The standard one uses the cooling from an EVGA GTX 950 which means no fins or heat pipes, whereas the SC uses EVGA's ACX 2.0 cooling (copper heat pipes/aluminium cooling fins).

I used to own the cheaper one, but it was often thermal throttling at 83c when at 100% usage, which meant the boost clock was dropped to like 1.6ghz. The fan was also very loud as it tried to reduce temps (unsuccessfully). With the SC one I now own, temperatures very rarely go above 60c under load, and it's quieter too. Also, the boost clock often gets to 2ghz in games; which is great.

I think it is the very best sub-£260 GTX 1060 you can get, especially when you consider EVGA's excellent customer support & UK RMA centre, as opposed to Palit for example (Hong Kong RMA).

just got my brother a 1060 today, hopefully coming tomorrow, not sure if its an upgrade at all though as he has a gtx 980, but after selling it he will break even, plus sides of the 1060

more ram
runs cooler and should have better support down the road

Before this my old card was a 280x still a decent performer but put out a crap load of heat. Had a quick play with the new card and I'm pleased with the results. :)

BF4 ultra regularly hitting 100+ (lowest being 60) - where as before they'd be between 50 and 80 never going above that (and certain settings were turned down when I used the 280x). Next up was insurgency, same deal again, pretty much 20+ frames in most cases - though the minimum fps didn't go up but I reckon that's down to my fx6300. Finally I tried Doom, the 280x manages to match the 1060 almost exactly when using vulkan, so the two cards are actually on par with one another in that particular game.

Max temp after bf4 was 72 if anyone is interested.

The EVGA SC was the one I wanted to order, but being out of stock and having no onboard graphics, I had to suck it up and spend more on a in-stock card. Glad I got the MSI Armor in the end, it's currently idling at 32c on a warm day, dead quiet with its fans off.

If you think the price is too good to be true it probably is.
GeForce GTX 1060 WindForce OC + OcUK GeForce GTX 1060 Dual both keenly priced UNTIL you realise it's £9.90 for delivery. ALL other GTX 1060 cards come with free shipping, so why not these two?
