GTX 1070 - any takers?

1920x1080 is the most dominant resolution for PC gamers so GTX1070 is going to sell a lot of GPU's & the 980 Ti market is going to drop to around 50% of what the new prices were at launch until channel stock runs out. Expect some deals on those though as the vendors find some unsold stock like last year when OCUK got a great deal on GTX 780 Ti's for £199.99!!

History has shown this massive depreciation to be the case on almost every high end GPU released in the last 10 years! If anyone thinks their existing GTX980 Ti is going to hold its value they are in for a massive shock!! (I own a GTX980Ti as well but accept its going to lose a lot of value shortly so will keep it as its going to run games smoothly for at least another 12-18 months).

there was never one sold for £199.99  try £250-300

I don't think we're going to see dirt cheap retail 980's and ti's although I do think second hand prices are going to take a huge bath, especially if today's news from AMD and the RX480 comes to pass.

I've been waiting for a 980ti used, but unwilling to pay over £200, but, I'm not going to bother now though if I can get a new card with warranty for more or less the same cash.

I hope AMD pull this off, the graphics card market - read Nvidia - needs serious competition, the pricing recently is becoming a joke.

keep dreaming:rolleyes:

People will only sell for what buyers are willing to pay, when the new cards (such as the 480) are launched the prices of used kit will plummet, happened before and will do so again especially give the large jump in performance from the new generation cards.

I'm sorry but the dreamers are the ones who think things like 980's will hold value on the second hand market, they won't and are already falling.

It doesn't work that way round if no one sells, that only drives price up. And 480 isn't a "large jump in performance", not by the benches we've seen (which are always to be taken with a pinch of salt anyway). It's inevitable prices will drop, they always do as you say, but based on some of the prices being suggested here, you should be able to get 670/680 for free and 7xx series cards for not much more LOL, but these are all still commanding VERY respectable prices, despite their age. It's wishful thinking, nothing more.

Just sold first of my 970s for 195 on eBay. If the second goes for similar I'll be on a 1070 and a few quid up for a couple of new games :)

Interesting! Would you say that's the going rate for 970's atm?

I've got a Gigabyte WF3 edition. Still a great card at my current res of 1200p however!

I'm sure you mean £1.95 based on how some people are talking on here right? :D

LOL right :) ... they are just embarrassing themselves with that vulture tactics.

I'm searching for a 2nd EVGA 980Ti Classy and cheapest sold every time is £450+ real sales not fake or scams.. Not sure where they are getting the £200 prices from... If they are going for that even a cheapest whatever brand 980ti's I will take them all. If i'm buying one from ebay or other sources for £200 I expect a brick in the package.

Some people don't live in the real world.

Hi

The second has just had an offer of 180 so yes that kind of region. Mine are also Windforce they seem quite popular.

I paid 265 in November 2014 with a free game I sold for 25. So 240 and it's sold for 195. Not bad for 18 months :)

As a side note this is a clear lesson in the 1070 or 1080 debate. The difference in value between the two at the point you try and sell them on is marginal so the premium you pay is rarely recouped.

Net of selling them on when the next gen arrive my money says SLI 1070 will end up being faster and potentially even cheaper as a 1080ti will have arrived in the interim and eroded the value of the 1080.

True. Still can't decide which of the new cards to get. Will probably just get a 1070 unless the 480 series is close in performance.

We may need a new thread soon "which 1070 card are you getting" :)

I may be going for Asus strix this time round. I'm on MSI, they do look cool and are build well (alghough my 970 died after 1.5 years)

Strix has slightly higher boost clock and maybe priced lower looking at 1080s pricing.
