GTX 1070 - any takers?

Ahh I really don't know what to do.. Haven't upgraded my machine since I bought it premade on here 5+ years ago. 1070 looks sensible, but then I keep seeing this Polaris thing, and with freesync being cheaper as well..

Do whatever feels right :D

If AMD had a 490 coming out at a similar time to the 1070 I'd probably go for it if it was price competitive. But alas, my only option is a 1070 or 1080.

What resolution do you play at? If its 1080p I would wait for the AMD card as it will be far cheaper and then upgrade the GPU again when you upgrade your monitor.

Also it depends how much you care about frames if you run at a higher res and demand that 60+ ultra setup then go with one of the Nvidia cards if you are looking to upgrade now. You'll probably have a lot more options if you can wait a few months though!

1070 does seems like it will be pretty good value for money for the 2k+ resolution users.

Same here, I have been with out a graphic card for 2 months now and I am fed up with playing L4D 2 on my 6700K graphics, I want to play DOOM and Vermintide :(

I refuse to pay 1080 money for the amount of gaming I have time to do, so it's a 1070 for me. Not sure which brand to get though, EVGA FTW or a Gigabyte card.

I'll probably go for a SC since it should arrive earlier than if I got a FTW. Yes I'm that fed up of not having a GPU that I can't wait an extra week or two for a FTW :D

erm, the AMD cards are coming at the end of the month, about 20 days? I would call that similar release times.

Are you really that badly off that you can't wait 20 more days, just to see what AMD have?

Then buy whichever is best. It's what I am doing.

One AMD card is coming out in 20 days. The 480.

And it's pretty much a given that it isn't a card to compete with the 1070. It may have a better price performance ratio, but IMO 1070 performance is optimal for 1440p 60Hz. Anything lower won't really be able to achieve that.

That's why I said I would have gone for the 490. But there's no news of that, not even any confirmation of its existence yet.

Yeah, I think AMD have really dropped the ball on this one. They have lost a lot of potential customers to the 1070, and lack of information/3rd party benchmarks for the 480 and other cards.

Like the Fury, they are yet again too slow and the lack of information means it's most likely gonna underperform.

Indeed. If i was AMD and had a faster polaris card coming out soon for $300 that competes with a 1070, i would be shouting about it right now. The 1070 comes out tomorrow and 1000's of people will buy/order one. Time to turn some heads AMD.

Are these actually going to be available to buy tomorrow? Or do I have to wait another month to get anything other than a founders edition?

Lot of unsold expensive 1080s still in the retail channel is why no concrete info yet. Nvidia will be trying to push those up to the last minute as lets face it unless you game above 1080/1440 a GTX 1080 is severe overkill ;)

GTX1070 is the best price/performance option.

Think I shall buy a AIB card when they come out, purely for triples on Iracing, my 970 just isn't cutting the mustard the way I would like it to.
