GTX 1070 - any takers?

What CPU you using as BF4 likes a lot of CPU cores & CPU cache to give high FPS? Also 1080/1440 @ 60FPS is acceptable to most PC gamers hence a 1070 is more than enough why pay for more GPU power which is going to depreciate rapidly when the 1080 Ti arrives!

If you game above 1080/1440 @ 60FPS then you need to spend a lot of money to get a decent experience on modern games. Multi core CPU & High end GPU for 4K is essential.

GTX1070 is a great product as it gives high end FPS for a budget price :D

I'm using a 4790K now and I do get around 100fps + with my 1080 (which can drop depending on the game). Don't get me wrong the 1070 looks like a good deal for the performance/price but I wouldn't go into it thinking it's going to blitz games at ultra beyond 1080p.

I agree it won't blitz them but it also will for the price offer a very playable gaming experience for PC gamers who do not want to pay the overall price to game @ 4K. Right now to do 4K you need a very powerful CPU + GTX 980 Ti, Titan, GTX 1080. After tomorrow you only need the mid price GTX 1070 instead of the way more expensive GPU's! This is why the NDA is not lifting until the last moment @ 2PM tomorrow as it will cost Nvidia GTX 1080 sales in the short term as the majority of PC gamers according to Steam hardware stats do not game above 1080 so do not really need the ultra powerful high end GPU's unless they simply must have a certain high FPS & money is not an issue to pay for that mega system!

The rest of us will be happy with a GTX 1070 & plenty of change to spare plus lower depreciation!! High end GPU's have horrible depreciation (50% from launch prices after tomorrow for used GTX 980 Ti + Titan series).

That's what it says in that digital foundry video. Not what I'd expect for £70 more than an aib card.
Power draw is way lower though so it does not need the vapour chamber! 100W less than a GTX 980 Ti!!

One of the big attractions of the GTX 1070 is power/performance & 150W is pretty good efficiency so thermals will be lower in the case & electricity bills also lower!!

They will all be "launched" and available for order, much like all the custom 1080's were ( most anyway). Whether you will get one for another few weeks is another matter :p

EVGA have confirmed that they will have a LIMITED number of SC cards available to BUY (not pre-order) tomorrow.

However this could very well only be in the US. No idea if it also includes some UK retailers or not.

There were a few custom 1080's available to actually buy as well (from memory someone got one of the KFA2/Galax blower ones at launch).

I don't know about that. The reference cooler struggles with the 1080 even with the vapour chamber. Downgrading it will reduce its performance in line with the 1070's lesser power draw, which should make relative performance roughly the same (i.e. struggling again). If it was the same cooler as the 1080 but with the 1070's lower power draw, you might have a nice, quiet(ish) card that doesn't thermal throttle.

The launch 1080 drivers were faulty as they caused high speed fan RPM spikes Nvidia have fixed that now.

You still need good case fans as always otherwise it will always hit the thermal throttle.

Biggest issue is the launch price. Its supposed to be £399 I doubt it will launch at that somehow more like £430-50 ish which is a little excessive considering within 2-3 months these cards will be around £375 max ;)
