GTX 1070 - any takers?

Strange plan if it is unless they know that AMD will be nowhere or have pre planned price cuts when supply rises.

That would be...unwise of Nvidia. AMD's announcements are three weeks away. If Nvidia cards drop significantly in price within the first few months (or even year) of sale - and I mean MSRP, not special offers - then those who bought at the higher price are going to be very unhappy bunnies!

  • EVERYONE cried foul at the 1080 FE price
  • 1080 FE sold out everywhere in hours.

Anyone got any idea how many they made though? Was demand high or supply low? That's important in order to interpret what "sold out" signifies. (Genuine question, btw. I don't know how many they've sold).

By the way, EVGA stated the SC would be $439 in the US.

That converts to £367 with VAT. So the price is marked up roughly 50 quid here.

But that is the fastest card currently.

I'll be amazed if all the 1070 go at this price...

Its a mediocre card with a premium price....Clown edition is looking tempting...:p

I mean, it is the most sensible option for sure.

...If you can stomach blower fan at 100%.

If you don't mind noise then the clown card is unquestionably the best buy.

1070's are looking like its just 30% less than 1080 prices.

Bearing in mind the currently overpriced 1080's are still selling out its all we can expect.

These will also likely sell out similarly.

Go figure. No point complaining if your going to buy anyway. Nvidia don't hear forum whining, they only see sales figures.

Yeah I suppose for the initial FE it went how expected, but with such high non references prices too and Nvidia still only making the same base price for each chip sold to an AIB that surely can't be ideal?

If people still end up buying the non reference cards in as high volume as normal too then you're 100% correct here.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Also, If it's actually just the UK being done over then that changes things a bit.

Honestly have no idea what to do now.. I need a card but the 1070 is gouged, the 1080 is still being gouged due to stock... AMD are sitting around with their fingers up their bums...

Lets be honest there are now 3 companies damaging the PC market.

1. Microsoft (Windows 8,8.1 and now windows 10)

2. Intel with their stupid prices since Skylake came out. Broadwell-E is just a bad joke, 6950X .. 70% price jump from every other Extreme chip that came before it.

3. Nvidia... since the 780,780Ti prices and then they sort of fixed that with the 970 prices and then 980 fell in a strange spot and not worth buying and 980Ti expensive but when you compare it to 2x970 (SLI) performance for the same price and have only one card and no SLI issues made it look like a good price but reality it was over priced.

Now the 1000 series is just a really bad joke on all levels, considering it is a Maxwell die shrink with minor tweaks and the only real thing that made it shine was the manufacturing process 16nm shrink that allowed high clock speeds ( or as Nvidia call it one of the MIRACLES of Pascal  but had nothing to do with them at all as they don't manufacture chips).

If the 1080Ti comes out at £800-850+( which is normally the x70 card x 2 = x80Ti price) I'm going to wait for Volta or whatever AMD brings out in the highend that competes with the Volta and hopefully sensibly priced.

Or will just wait for a graphics card in the 2nd hand market from now on to update and not give them my money directly.

perfect

they are being sent the us in the begining tho arent they so wouldnt that be why they are pricing it that for the us and not announcing global prices

Why would they be shipped to the US then to the UK? That's ridiculous. Shipments are sent in batches from where they're made somewhere in China to different locations.

Honestly I would put up with a £20 price mark up from the retailer, but £50 is taking the mick.

lol what you got ill raise you a 9800gt 1gb in a 3570k system

I've got Intel Integrated 4600 Graphics mate. I'll sell you it with the i5-4570 for £500? :D:D:D

Having one of those 1080s myself, before I put it under water I have to say I'm quite surprised at how the blower did. It was boosting to 1860MHz and temps were in the 80s. Fan speed certainly wasn't at full blast and the noise wasn't too bad at all. In games it definitely wasn't getting to 100%.

Price wise it's not a replacement to the 970, but instead the 980, both around 400. And the 1080 thus replacing the 980ti both around 600. hurm
