GTX 1070 - any takers?

Considering I don't have a card, ended up ordering a SC 1070. The price doesn't sit right with me, but the empty GPU slot in my case is crying.

If we get any more news about AMD cards in the next 2 weeks that it'll take to get to me (or the 14 days after I get it) I may end up sending it back.

If it's just a fact of needing a card for gaming (this i understand) why not buy a used 980Ti for now while you consider your options? then you can sell it again when ready to buy "your" card. Consider it rental. If you get your money back (likely) its free rental.

Probably true, I haven't had a Nivida GPU since before Christmas. :)

I've had to give pretty much every other driver version a miss since about November last year depending on which GPU and I've had less problems with them than some people.

Main issue being my Kepler cards I have to run K-Boost on to get stability with some driver releases even though they are fine with older and every other recent driver and the Maxwell cards have had some black screen issues with certain applications and/or random driver recovery.

Currently the cheapest 1080 around. It has a clown on it.

Their game is making **** looking graphics cards obviously.

diff

hi can someone tell me is there any diff between all the cards,I know the FE is supposed to be better built but what are the most popular cards and why.thanks

Who says it replaces the 970? It's just a number. You need to look at the performance of the cards to make a judgement on that. Having seen all the benchmarks I think 1070 is not occupying the space in the range that 970 did.
But the 1070's performance isn't any better over the last gen than the 970's was, so this excuse doesn't wash. A 970 was around level with a 780 Ti when it launched, generally matching it and perhaps slightly losing out once the 780 Ti was heavily overclocked. That seems to be exactly where we are again here now, except considering the 980 Ti instead. And the 780 Ti was a relatively more powerful card on top of that, given that it was more powerful than the original Titan.

I'm not saying that what Nvidia have done is unexpected, because the 970 was a one-off priced to cripple AMD (which it achieved). But the excuse that the 1070 is this relative powerhouse compared to it is nonsense. It's exactly the same in relative terms to the previous generation's high end.

what? have you been hiding under a rock for the past year? AMD Drivers have not been bad for a few years, Xfire support has been horribad, but single card support has been sublime for the most part for a number of years.

Yep, pretty much. Only got back into building a PC in the past year and haven't even looked at graphics cards until last few weeks.

Didn't intend this to be 'tosh' just what fellow gaming buddies have said.

Cheers for the heads up though.

980ti's are going for £375 on eBay, when the 1070 drops in price to £329 most likely so will the 980ti and so there is no difference in just buying a 1070 upfront.

Exactly this.

Ok, I've asked this several times already with no answer.

The only card available now is the MSI.

Why is this? Is it not as good as the others or is there just more stock or what?

Do you guys think KFA saw the future? Nvidia would be making a clown out of all of us so they slapped it on their 1080 and said here clowns. We are feeling charitable and offer you an out. Because at these prices lets face it. You may as well bow to the clown and buy it.

Nvidia is just pricing them a segment higher than justified because there is nobody to stop them.

Hopefully in 6 months or so AMD will give them a reason to bring out a 1080ti at a price around where the 1080 currently is, and drop the 1070/1080 back to the price points they should originally have been at.

980Tis used prices will drop now 1070 is available. Expect ~£300 - £320 even on ebay soon. Give it a day or so when the 980Ti sellers realise they are taking the ****.
