GTX 1070 - any takers?

Ok, I've asked this several times already with no answer.

The only card available now is the MSI.

Why is this? Is it not as good as the others or is there just more stock or what?

MSI in my experience are one of the better vendors. Full 3 year warranty that transfers with the GPU if you sell it on.

If it's just a fact of needing a card for gaming (this i understand) why not buy a used 980Ti for now while you consider your options? then you can sell it again when ready to buy "your" card. Consider it rental. If you get your money back (likely) its free rental.

Yeah that's a strong possibility. I see them going for around £320-350 on Ebay, which would save me £60 for basically the same performance as the 1070.

The only drawback of that is it may end up depreciating in value faster than the 1070, so I don't really know.

It's very rare for any GPU to hold it's value unless you get a good deal on 2nd hand.

anyone ever heard of kfa2 not sure to cancel my order
KFA2/Galax are a decent brand. You have nothing to worry about with them. Their 970 EXOC reviewed very well, and they've partnered up with OcUK in the past to offer exclusive models such as the 970 EXOC Black Edition.

http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/zardon/galax-geforce-gtx-970-oc-silent-infinity-black-edition/

They also produce the high end Hall of Fame series, which are some of the best (and most expensive :D) cards around.

I can't help but wonder if there are going to be a few more cards drop into the line up. only 28 1070 variants compared to 36 1080s. Seems like we've not seen all the partner cards yet.

ps on the kruger card... I can see why people say kruger cos of the colour scheme, but looks more like a red version of Darkman

Who says it replaces the 970? It's just a number. You need to look at the performance of the cards to make a judgement on that. Having seen all the benchmarks I think 1070 is not occupying the space in the range that 970 did.
Nvidia says. That's why they named it the 1070.

We know it's a cut down GP104 GPU. So unless you're saying there's a chance that GP104 is the biggest and best Pascal GPU Nvidia have lined up, then we can be like 99.9% sure that it sits in the exact same position that the 670 and 970 did before it. 770 was a rebrand, which obviously the 1070 is not.

Lastly, the 1070 is actually more cut down than the 970 was in comparison to its fully activated brother.

So yes, people complaining about the prices and the £100-150 hike over the 970 are perfectly justified in doing so. It is quite ridiculous. Of course if somebody wants to get one, I'm not gonna say anything. That's cool, people can make their own value judgements. But those saying the prices are insane have some pretty good justifications for doing so.

I'd mostly ruled myself out of buying one before, but now it's 100% guaranteed.

It's also making me worried about retailers turning the 480's great price into something not-so-great when it actually releases.

Damn... I was definitely going to get a 1070 but those prices are pretty high. Not sure if I game enough to justify paying these prices, I expected the non-FE cards to be quite a bit cheaper than the FE one like the 1080 range

So going by what I worked out earlier.

Well the cheapest 1080 non founders edition is £524.99

The MSRP works out at $599 = £413.75 + 20% VAT =413.75 +82.75 gives us a grand total of £496.50
So that is a £28.49 mark up, which isn't the end of the world.

The 1070 MSRP is $379 = £261.79 +20% VAT = £261.79 +£52.36 gives us a grand total of £314.15
So even with the same £28.49 mark up the cheapest could be £342.64

Personally I don't think the mark up will be quite as high for the 1070's, so I expect we will be looking at £329.99 as the starting point.

Of course it will all depend on stock levels and just how fast after tomorrow we can expect custom cards to actual arrive.

The mark up on the cheapest card is actually £50.84, which is simply shocking, and better cards are absolutely ridiculous in price.

Personally I don't solely blame NVidia, as it is the AIB's, importers, distributors and retailers that have allowed this to happen.

We can just hope that when stock levels stabilise, pricing will as well.

They had better not use the same distribution channels for the RX480 else we will be seeing £250/300 as the starting point for those as well.

LOL WHAT THE HELL!???

I was GENUINELY believing that they'd start around 329 and be up as expensive as 419 for the MSI, mentioned it somewhere here...but they're STARTING at £379....and going up to £479 for the ASUS?

I literally can't believe they've taken $399 MSRP and either just stuck a £ sing there instead, or added WAY more on top! That's bloody despicable!

We'll definetly see some more models, but almost certainly not any cheaper ones. KFA2's cheap plastic blower offering is already on there, and their equivalent 1080 is the cheapest of the lot. I very doubt that will be undercut by anything.

thanks ive read a lot of praise about hall of fame cards wasnt sure if they use quality parts id love to get into the overclocking boosts, was more worried that all the rest offer 3 year warrantys and these only offer 2 I dont plan on upgrading for a very long time now I upgraded my 970 because of the vram limit being hit in games
