GTX 1070 - any takers?

Wait, you guys do realize these are founders editions right? The actual aftermarkets should release in a week or maybe 2-3 for the price we all predicted?

Correct. It'll take a month to stabilise but OCUK will then magically have a today only for 30/40 off and it'll then drop permanent

Given what we were told the Founders Edition is actually fair as it's selling at RRP.
Indeed. That's why I'm not surprised they sold all the Founders cards, apart from 6 remaining.

I bet those expensive aftermarket cards aren't so hot right now, though.
I have a feeling people would be much more accepting of the prices if for example, the SC was around £370-80. But they're milking the early adopters for £50 .

Indeed. They are £10 higher, but I don't expect anything less, £10 early-adopters isn't crazy.

Maybe nVidia counted on AIBs to increase prices and going total creed mode and therefor saw a perfect way to increase profits a bit.

But the 1070's performance isn't any better over the last gen than the 970's was, so this excuse doesn't wash. A 970 was around level with a 780 Ti when it launched, generally matching it and perhaps slightly losing out once the 780 Ti was heavily overclocked. That seems to be exactly where we are again here now, except considering the 980 Ti instead. And the 780 Ti was a relatively more powerful card on top of that, given that it was more powerful than the original Titan.

I'm not saying that what Nvidia have done is unexpected, because the 970 was a one-off priced to cripple AMD (which it achieved). But the excuse that the 1070 is this relative powerhouse compared to it is nonsense. It's exactly the same in relative terms to the previous generation's high end.

Fair enough. How much Nvidia knocked off the 970 launch price is an unknown I take it? In a few weeks I bet you can get a custom one of these for £325 and everyone will be a lot happier.

Given what we were told by nVidia, all the aftermarket cards bar the absolute special ones like the hybrids and cherry picked cores should be under £400.

Why do people keep justifying the ludicrous prices by saying its as fast as xxxx? It replaces the 970 so it should be around that with a little extra for being new, nvidia just seem to be extracting the urine because they know there's enough people with more money than sense.

No one is justifying it from what I have been reading. The prices are disgusting to be fair. It it what it is.

1070 pricing is very interesting.

On the EVGA website there is a 60 euro difference between the founders edition and the SC edition of the 1080.

For the 1070, the SC and Founders are the same price ...and in the UK retailers the SC edition is more expensive than the FE.

lol. It is all a big cluster**** at the moment so I think I will wait.

Does EVGA Ben want to explain that :p?

You can buy the 1070/1080 directly from Nvidia in the UK. £50 cheaper and I would have had the FE.

Same. My personal limit always used to be £300. I broke that for my last few cards by a bit and this time I'm willing to do £350 but no more than that.

Also I don't preorder cards either. When I buy I expect it next day.

I don't mind preordering if it is a good price, you can cancel when ever, and the money isn't taken till despatch like you can do from some places.

If the money is taken straight away they can do one :p

Just a sign of how gamers have been brainwashed in last few years, pay more and pay before the product is on shelves...then pat yourself on the back for thinking ahead, derp!
