Which was incorrect. Reference GTX970's still went for $330+.The 970 was $299 for the reference model. A nice 50% bump.

Funny how quickly things change... just yesterday the 1070 was being heralded as the King's Golden Gonads that would swept up by gamers in millions, rendering the 1080 an overpriced showcase piece... yet today it's an expensive pointless hunk of circuit board... the truth is somewhere in the middle of course and I'm quite angered by the whole thing myself tbh, but it certainly does make the cheaper 1080's far more appealing than they were 24 hours ago, even though I don't want to spend that much. Maybe this was their plan all along.
Pretty much.
When the 1070 comes in a few days that will change gaming forever

This is great, I'm just going to sit back and wait till big vega. Hopefully the market will have sorted itself out by Christmas my fury-x can hold out till then.
This whole launch feels a little rushed by nVidia, almost like they know they can't compete with £/performance with the upcoming AMD stuff, so they are making the most of price gouging their new mid range stuff whilst they can.
Why though? What did you expect? Did you expect the FE to be anything other than 399? It was obviously going to be 399. Only thing is that more of the custom cards are above the FE, might be because the 1070 FE has a worse cooler than the 1080 FE?
Are you willfully that ignorant?
The third party cards are €500. The same price as the FE. The whole point of the FE was that it had a €100 premium over the 3rd party versions. The basic 3rd party 1070's were meant to be about €400 - instead they're almost €500.
No-one is giving out about the FE price, everyone expected that. The 1070 is supposed to be a 970 class replacement, same as the 970, 770, 670 all were.
We get the 1070 and we get ****ed over, expected to pay the previous gen upper tier price for the new 'mid' tier.
The 970 was €340 when it came out, the 780ti was about €650. Same applied to the GTX770/GTX680, GTX670/GTX580, etc.
This is just plain and simple greed and price gouging.
wait a few weeks and don't buy it then. The cutting edge has always been expensive and the industry isn't going to shove the few retailers it has left into the floor by making existing stock worth nothing.
Simple answer is to wait for black friday.
Well I order a Gigabyte 1070 G1 today.
I was hoping for a lower price, but I had a feeling they would be about £400. I have been with out a graphic card for over 2 months now since my last one broke, I just want to play games I want to play and not what my 6700k can play.
Now to get DOOM![]()

Exactly the same for me. Been without a card for a month now almost and it'll take another two weeks for my card to arrive anyway.
The market and my own situation basically forced my hand into buying a 1070. Although when I'm close to the 3 month date of my purchase I may upgrade to a 1080 with EVGAs step-up depending on a few factors. We'll see
use this opportunity to play some simple (yet fun) games.
South park the stick of truth
ori and the blind forest
rayman
monkey island 2
transisitor
the wolf among us
bastion
brother a tale of two sons
just to name a few![]()
To be honest I've got three exams for my uni finals coming up this week so it doesn't bother me that much... The ~1 week wait after that will be painful though haha. Been waiting to play the new Witcher 3 DLC!
I've been meaning to play wolf among us too.. Gotta pick that up sometime
