GTX 1070 - any takers?

Are you seriously ignoring all the crucifying that people ARE doing to them over this? Or are you just going to pick out the rare exceptions and then act like they represent the popular opinion?

I'm talking about a bit more than a few people moaning on a forum. A few years back though if they'd pulled this kind of move there would have been no one defending them (other than the odd lone voice) - while with the 1070 there are more than a few who are defending the move they've made.

Did you want to start a rally? :/

Allways the competitions fault! Nvidia doing what they do best with marketing but it's okay because there is no competition so they are allowed to charge high prices if you wana blame some one blame Amd they are to blame for high prices xD

Beautiful! :D
I didn't 'blame' AMD. Nor did I say it was all 'super ok'. I'm just explaining the situation and what would improve it.

This is all that's ever happened and all that will happen unless something happens to AMD that makes them a serious competitor.

A few people moaning on a small forum isn't exactly representative of the people buying these cards. Unless Nvidias profits and market share are not what they're expecting, the 10 series will be a success and no 'rallying' will take place against them

for someone like me who hasn't upgraded for many years, or someone who is building their first gaming PC the prices don't look too crazy...

I was looking at either a 970 or 980ti before xmas time

now I can get a 1070 with 980ti performance for much less than I could before xmas

or a 1080 for not much more than the 980ti's I was looking at....

Think people are mis-reading the context I meant that in - I'm not talking about rallying some kind of protest against the prices I'm talking about how the prices have been received - even the more neutral tech sites have barely raised eyebrows in reaction relatively speaking - compared to if they'd pulled the same move a few years back.

Who said anything about me in this context?
Because you were the one who said that people weren't crucifying Nvidia for this like you obviously want them to. Even though plenty of people are complaining very loudly and have been since the prices were announced.

I was merely commenting on the selective evidence being used to support these arguments some of you are making. 20 people could complain, but then one says they're fine with it and all the sudden, "EVERYBODY IS FINE WITH IT, HOW DO THEY KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT!?!"

Review sites are usually going to base their price/performance judgements on the MSRP, not the price-gouged UK/EU retailer pricing.

People usually accuse me of being pro-nVidia :S

EDIT: Be careful pigeon holing me as while I might not be that happy about the 1070 prices for what they are - I'm neither taking it that personally neither would I have any problem dropping a ton on a proper high end Pascal card if it was truly top of the range.

I feel like for a decent card (MSI, EVGA, Gigabyte) 1070's are priced at the 980ti level and the 1080 is at a new even higher price point.

Over £600 is silly expensive.

For the 1000 series to be at the same price point as previous gen, then top tier 1070's should be no more than £330 and the 1080 top tier should be around £430.

Instead the 1070 series is in the 980ti range and the 1080 crawling towards the original Titan prices of £600!!

Ah found your item on sold listing. :)

Surprise surprise the seller bought it from Overclockers UK and then boom seller made £235 loss after mod went wrong.

Well done you bought EVGA and warranty transferred to you. :)

:)

Not sure how the warranty will work as it stands but seller asked EVGA for a replacement cooler, they said they can't at the moment as there is limited stock but to try again in a couple of months.

You cant get a 980ti for £365..

(Mind you you cant get a 1070 for that either yet but you can order one at least :p)

I'm not saying you're biased. I am saying that you implied Nvidia weren't being crucified over this and then put a sad face, making it quite obvious you want them to be.

You just made it sound like everybody was taking it and rolling over when I feel like *most* people, including myself, are not happy with the prices and have made that fairly clear.

You are misreading me - the sad face was before the crucified bit and in reflection to how so many people seem to have bought into nVidia's marketing.

Most tech sites are in the US and MSRP is only $50 more for base models. Without competition at that performance level it is hard for them to say much about price and performance. The 10 series give greater FPS per dollar than the 9 series, so objectively there isn't a big problem. Tech sites all know pieces tend to settle a little after launch.
