GTX 780 Owners Club

Quick question....

I've still got an X58 motherboard (spec in sig) Is that, and the rest of the system for that matter, good enough for a 780? No bottle necking etc?

Fair enough, still cant believe how long this PC has lasted! I'm itching to upgrade to Haswell/IB etc. But it just keeps on going! lol

Pics as promised, apologies for the the quality! Not fired my new rig up yet as my keyboard didn't arrive, fingers crossed tomorrow! :D

EVGA GTX780 ACX
My card arrived last week, but did not have time to install until Sunday, so here is my report of a very disappointing four days
Really been looking forward to this GPU (OCuk had a waiting list for this card).as my HD6970 was getting very sluggish at 2560x1600.
Read all about the problems with 320.18 so only installed the 320.11 driver on the EVGA disk.

Getting multiple crashes:
BSOD whilst on IE 10, Heaven and Valley benchmarks.
Metro 2030 locks up randomly. Sometimes Alt/Tab/Del works, otherwise hard reset.
Crysis2/Bioshock/Metro LL seem to be OK.
New Dell U3014 often refuses to recognise any signal from GPU. Switching off/on on the monitor has no effect but powering off/on at the 13A plug for the monitor does work.

I wondered if it was my overclock so tried OCuk settings and also stock settings but same results. CPU/GPU temps seem fine. Also updated the EVGA BIOS as listed earlier.

What do I do now? I think I’ll try 320.18 and the EVGA utilities today, but not optimistic, so will re-install my HD6970 later. At least I can finish the Metro 2030 achievements. Perhaps I should have bought a HD7970?

Over the last month I’ve increased RAM/overclocked the i7 again/and upgraded the GPU. Just looking at FRAPS with my same quality setting throughout:
Dell 2408 (1920x1200) with 8Gb RAM and HD6970
Metro 2030 = 20
Heaven = 34
Valley = 51
Dell 2408 (1920x1200) with12Gb RAM and HD6970
Metro 2030 = 25
Heaven = 34
Valley = 52
Dell 3014 (2560x1600) with 12Gb RAM, standard clock and HD6970
Metro 2030 = 21
Heaven = 25
Valley = 30
Dell3014 (2560x1600) 12Gb RAM O/C to 3.8 and HD6970
Metro 2030 = 30
Heaven = 27
Valley = 32
Dell3014 (2560x1600) 12Gb RAM O/C to 3.8 and GTX780
Metro 2030 = 57
Heaven = 82
Valley = 65

So when the 780 works it is a big improvement – it’s just not reliable. The big surprise was the marked difference in Metro 2030 a 50% increase in RAM gave. Overclocking from 3.6 to 3.8 does not seem to make a big difference, so I’ve stepped back to 3.6 for a cooler every day setting

Has anyone RMA’d a 780 due to poor reliability?

OCuk Titan Goliath. EX58-ud3r(1.6). FK BIOS. i7 920 DO @3.6 on air. 256 Gb Crucial M4. 12Gb Corsair Vengeance. Corsair TX750W. Cooler Master Cosmos.
