GTX 970 returns ????

Actually I did have a Galax 970 Black Edition which I returned after the memory fiasco. Then bought a 2nd hand 7970 to crossfire and its actually the same or slightly faster than the 970, and saved £200 in the process.

As someone that moved from 7970/7990 trifire, to a single 980, then later SLi 980s, I think that's crazy.

I'd rather have a single 980 than the AMD setup I had before.

I already had a vapor-x 7950 before getting the 970 and I only play at 1080p so the current setup is more than enough for now. If I did buy a 980 now for over £400 I don't think I'd see a huge difference from my current setup (The 7970 actually cost me £36 because the seller thought it was faulty :D). I get 60fps in Witcher3, Farcry 4 with all the Gameworks stuff enabled so no need to waste money imo.

May consider an upgrade once I upgrade to 1440p or 4k eventually.

Just stick with the cards mate, very good cards tbh for 1080 for anything above im not sure if want to stick with them. 1440p and youll be pushing into that last 500mb which people had issues with. Greg did a review on this card which I think you should watch as it was a really good review might put your mind at rest.

Fair enough, I was running 1600p60 then 1440p144 on the AMD cards.

The biggest issue was the sheer amount of heat and noise generated. The mrs used to moan that she couldn't hear hollyoaks.... (I cared less as I had headphones..)

Most people would do 5 min research into a £280 item before they buy it. A google search of "970 problems" brings a whole load up. The company's are telling the truth, they do have 4GB of VRAM but 0.5GB is slower than the rest

Sure me and you may do that, but many don't. How about the rops then? Do you get the full advertised 64?

My 970 works flawless and no issues at all. What problems are you seeing OP or is this just what you have read?

Flawless? Come on gregster...

It boggles the mind why people go out of their way to defend nvidia on this. It should be clear as day and night that nvidia lied about the specs and quite a few people experienced issues due to the vram issue.

If it was a non issue, so many people like the op would not be returning the cards?

Doesn't mean they're not working without a hiccup!! You can run these cards at 1080p without a single issue, so not strictly true there is it! People start jumping on the bandwagon when they realise they've been affected. If they genuinely had a problem that would be fine. I would say there have been an equal number of happy/sad customers. Also, OcUK are still selling volumes of these cards from what Gibbo has suggested so let's not start this again!

I am not starting anything. I replied to Gregster saying the card was flawless which is not true.

Besides I am not disputing whether the card works or not and how happy/sad it makes people feel. That is not relevant to what I am disputing. Seems to me you would argue people are wrong for feeling cheated for not getting what was advertised and wanting to return the cards. lol.

Did you not watch my review? I was playing all the games that were supposed to have the issues and nothing. I can't report faults when there wasn't any and frankly I am getting sick to death of people who keep on about brand defending when they do the self themselves. I have given positive reports on NVidia and AMD but unless I am rubbishing NVidia, I get jumped on. Enough already please.

What YOU do you own?

Wont the vram effect effect sli setups more as ya have more grunt to up the settings and get closer to the vram cap?

I havent read into the 970 scandal but i thought it was vram related.

I am sorry gregster, but just because you did not have an issue, that does not mean the card is flawless. In your experience and review it was, and I believe that to be true, not like by saying it is not that it means I am calling I am a liar.

You said the 970 was a flawless card, it is not. If it was, it would have been 64 rops as advertised and full 4gb without the potential in limited cases to slow down. I do not think I am being unfair for pointing that out. Had you said in my limited experience with the card, it was flawless, I would not have said anything for example.

You say jumped on, show me where I did that? Enough of what exactly? You make it sound like I am going out of my way to post in every thread about the 970.

As for brand defending, where am I defending AMD? I mean, it is okay for gregster to use a 970 a couple of days and call it flawless and for me to use and amd product for over a year since I was on nvidia and not be able to say there is little wrong with amd drivers on single cards?

If you look at the amd drivers thread you will see how I have shown dissatisfaction at the lack of amd driver updates and pointed out on many occasions that sli is better than crossfire when it comes to multiple cards from what I can see. Also now that I have a 295x2 which I got for a very good price I mentioned yesterday in my impression of the card that crossfire is not perfect and that amd need to work on crossfire drivers.

Yet I am defending amd? Come on gregster...

i havent had any problems with my 970 either.

the amount of fuss that was brought up about this issue you would think the information would be added. this has to be the most popular gpu of this generation.

why would he check the internet for problems with this gpu? the reviews and the info the seller offers should be enough.

These cards work fine in sli for me and have done since I bought them back in October.
There are a lot of games that I can run at 4k dsr and not have issues with the vram.

In all honesty I dont think these cards have enough grunt to make the vram issue relevant anyway just like say a 3gb 280x doesn't have the grunt to make a lack of vram an issue
