Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2

I agree.

Tiny bit worse if you can say that, than the first one but only because you knew all the characters, which on the flip side made the gags build up quicker too.

Sometimes the forced 80s references felt borderline ott but not that bad....

Marvel deffo having an 80s revival.... Thor Next.

I enjoyed it. Wasn't as good as the 1st but I really rate the 1st one. You can't recreate the freshness of vol 1.
I enjoyed drax and his humour. One thing Guardians does really well is show the vastness and variety of the marvel
universe.

5/10. Average.

Loved the first, new characters made it unpredictable. This one has chunks of predictability, although for it's credit I didn't find myself bored.

They did manage some drax humour implied due to knowing the characters.
Storyline between the sisters is a setup for another movie against the 'dad'..

Just wanted to explain one of the end credit scenes. For those that don't want to know anything about the next Avenger movie, please don't click. It's a minor spoiler.

For those that didn't follow, the Sovereign created a new super being called Adam. This is Adam Warlock. He is integral to the up coming Avenger Infinite War movie.

Loved it saw it in IMAX 3d was my first time experiencing an IMAX film too.

I think I laughed more than if I'd gone to watch a comedy film.

Loved all the sly references and leaving it wide open for future films.

Yep I went to see it last night in imax 3D and I loved it. First time I've seen a movie in imax so thoroughly enjoyed it and have to say it was much better than previous 3D non imax movies I've seen.

As for the movie itself, thought it was pretty decent. Not as good as the first one but not bad at all. Humour was spot on I thought, Drax was hilarious and loved baby groot as well.

One thing the first one had in its favour was that expectations was low, most people had no idea who these characters are, comic book movies didn't have this comic tone all the way through, they were all pretty serious most of the time and Guardians felt like a breath of fresh air.

What works for me about this one was that it's something of a tragicomedy - of all the Marvel films so far this is probably the deepest under the fun/colourful surface - and it's why unlike the other Marvel films where it's a case of being interested in what stuff happens, with the Guardians I want to see where the characters go and how their arcs are resolved.

Yondu's death/funeral - has there been anything as :( in the MCU?
Peter has now seen his mother die, his 'daddy' die and had to off his actual dad.
That Drax/Mantis scene where you see that for all his belly laughs he's still got all that pain of his family being slaughtered.
Dat Rocket/Yondu scene on the ship </3
Finding out Nebula being messed up is mostly down to Gamora

Also random Marvel cosmic nerdy references I enjoyed.

When Ego is showing Peter his vision and Peter's eyes change, they look exactly like the character of Eternity in the comics.
When Yondu and Rocket are doing all the jumps and deforming it's a nod to when Thanos was doing something similar in the original The Infinity Gauntlet comic.
There's a shot of Ego's planet towards the end where the surface looks like the original comic book design (i.e. a planet with a face)

I agree film ended on a particular sad note.

Yondu in my opinion was one the best characters and to kill him off was a surprise as you always expect a way for the main cast to wriggle out of death. The Mary Poppins bit had me in stitches but none the less his death felt like a huge waste of a brilliant character.

I did enjoy it, I did think they tried to push the comedy element a bit harder than necessary which might have made the story a tiny bit weaker, but overall much better than most Marvels.

I agree. A bit too heavy on the comedy, and the soundtrack wasn't as good. A bit of tweaking and it could have surpassed the original. As it stands, 7/10.

I think the first movie worked better because the team was coming together, so not only were they learning about each other (and we were too), they were also in conflict with each other which a lot of the time was where the humour and best lines came from. In the second film, the characters knew each other and the humour was a bit forced and the character development somewhat clunky. It's telling that some of the best lines come from the interaction with the new characters.

If the script had a little more polishing, it could have gone from good to great. I also agree that the soundtrack was not as good in the second film.

If it had been the Yondu from the first film nobody would have been that moved, but Gunn and Rooker did a great job fleshing him out (also tragic!), so by the time he dies, his expulsion from his own adopted family, being given that acceptance by Rocket into the Guardians (briefly anyway!), finding out his actual motivation for not delivering Peter to his dad and eventually through his own sacrifice earning redemption among the senior Ravagers... all that stuff carries more weight.

I don't think it was a waste. The trouble with comic book films is the characters typically have no real arc per se, they just sort of perpetually do their thing, fuelled by whatever burden or impetus it is that drives them and fulfil story arcs. With something like Nolan's Batman, being self-contained it wasn't afraid to give Bruce Wayne a full arc and closure/a happy ending. When you have this franchise thing where you're just churning out movie after movie it all gets a bit safe because nobody wants to kill-off or remove anyone important or have characters change too much because they have to serve the greater story. Yondu being very similar to Rocket meant it wouldn't have made much sense to have him stick around as part of the team - he's there to further Peter and Rockets character arcs and give the film a pretty but sombre ending... ultimately they're the main characters and he wasn't (in fact Gunn nearly killed him off at the end of the first film but decided against it eventually).

Annoyed I have to wait another 3 or so years to see how Gunn resolves their character arcs (the third one is going to be set post-Infinity War so thankfully won't need to deal with any more Stones) because the thing that I enjoy about these films is where the characters are going, rather than what the characters are doing.

Seeing this tonight can't wait, loved the first one. How many end credit scenes are There? Don't want to leave too early

IIRC there are four. They are spread out, so you have to stay all the way to the end. Don't be fooled by the lights going up, ours went up and down several times.
