Guild Wars 2

Ack! My guild was going to do a Mallyx run in 10 minutes, I logged out to change character, and now I cant log back in!!!!!

FAIL.

Oh lol, Blinding Flash just got reduced to 10 energy .... Erm why?

Seriously, the only thing I fear about GW2 is how completely incompetent Arenanet are at balancing the first one.

I'm still not convinced by the skill bar...

8 skills you could choose freely compared to 6 set skills and 4 you get to pick?

7 set skills.

5 are set by your weapons, one slot is dedicated for an elite, and one slot for a healing spell.

Looking through the list of elementalist skills here, there are so many brilliant builds that could be made without either an elite or healing spell, because elementalists have healing covered through their normal water magic skills.

Without a 12 minute recharge elite, and a dedicated heal spell, you could make a lot of funky solo farming builds by stocking up on lots of armor and defensive skills instead, and speccing your traits into earth magic for more tanky defense:

And I mentioned a problem with having a dedicated elite slot as well - the elites take 12-15 minutes to recharge in GW2, thats normally something I wouldnt put on my skill bar no matter how flashy the tornado spell is.

Oh? The video said 6. 2 for your primary weapon, 2 for your offhand weapon. 1 'Combo' attack based on your weapon/offhand combination and a dedicated healing slot.

Doesn't explain if there are a selection of self heals available that you get to choose from (seems so from the Ranger skill list though). No mention of the elite slot, but I assume you get a large selection of elites and its not as if you wouldn't be taking an elite anyway.

Can't seem to get the Ele section to load, Ranger worked fine though. Slightly worried that there were only 2 elites mentioned for Ranger atm. Also not a fan of stupidly long recharge times.

I think either the video could be incorrect there, or Anet might have changed the mechanics, since its only very early in production still.

The official wiki states that the main hand weapon determines three skills not two, and Arenanet have said in their previews that there will be a dedicated slot for both a self heal and an elite.

But ofc its still nowhere near finalized so it might be changed.

Water magic is looking brilliant though, healing, snares, and damage, but I will assume that it will do a lot less damage than fire and air magic do.

Fire = full DPS and high degen from burning
Air = Strong DPS with stuns, blinds and knockdowns
Earth = Decent DPS and tanking
Water = Mediocre damage with healing and snares.

The best places to get info from are the GW2 website and official wiki ofc, Anet developers and CM managers have already identified lots of mistakes on the forums that reviewers keep on making.

Another point to make with the self healing is that the Phoenix spell also self heals. It flies towards the target and works in a boomerang manner, returning to you in a wide arc if you move left of right after casting it. After it returns it heals you, so why with so many healing skills already placed in the left 5 skills do players need to be forced to pick an extra dedicated one if they are playing in an area that doesnt need it?

The videos in post 183 seriously make me even more impatient now, I NEED THIS GAME no matter what the skill bar restrictions are going to be like.

*Must have a Charr Warrior named Flufflez!

This is a title I am interested in, not rabid fanboy interested, just interested. The PvP sounds decent (though to be fair, lots of MMOs "sound decent" prior to release), hoping that there is some decent world pvp options to choose from, would ultimately like full world pvp, but I'll settle for seperate world pvp if I must.

I think the only thing which might put me off is that I traditionally play healers in MMOs. They have been my main character class in MMOs for over a decade, I utterly love, I mean LOVE being a healer. The "no healers" which people are so frenetically loving is actually a bad thing for me rather than a good thing.

Problem is you're one of a very very small minority...............so no one cares what you think :p :D :D

As an ex-UO fan, who wants to desperately see a UO 2 made, thats something I am very used to being told :D

(though interestingly when I am healing people they seem to care 100x more what I think :D )

Yeah, healing is fun at times, assuming you played wow and got bored of whack a mole on grid?

How are there no healers? You can play a healer :)

Water Blast

Water Blast is an elementalist staff skill.

Shoot a jet of water at foes that also heals allies within its blast radius. This skill recharges instantly.

Healing Rain

Healing Rain is an elementalist ground-targeted staff skill. It applies a three second regeneration boon every three seconds for the duration of the spell.

Call down a healing rain for your allies at the target area. Applies Regeneration and removes conditions. 50 second recharge.

Vapor Blade

Throw a cyclonic blade that strikes foes along a straight path. This skill recharges instantly.

Improved Vapor Blade causes the blade to also heal allies.

No one wants to wait for an hour LF a cleric though, hence healing / protection roles have been spread across all the characters.

There is no *dedicated* healing class. But all classes can heal, even warriors can be specced as backline tactics characters that use protective banners and other such skills.

Also playing a human character and picking Dwayna as your God will give you access to more healing skills, but if you plan on playing an elementalist like I want to, you dont need to put any healing spells in skill slots 6-10. You click on water attunement and you become a healer.
