Guild Wars 2

How are there no healers? You can play a healer :)

Well he said in the video "No Healers" :p

There is no *dedicated* healing class.

Ok, let me adjust my earlier post.

I think the only thing which might put me off is that I traditionally play *dedicated* healers in MMOs. They have been my main character class in MMOs for over a decade, I utterly love, I mean LOVE being a *dedicated* healer. The "no healers" which people are so frenetically loving is actually a bad thing for me rather than a good thing. :p

But all classes can heal, even warriors can be specced as backline tactics characters that use protective banners and other such skills.

Sounds like the system in Rift where essentially all classes can heal

this actually sounds really good im looking forward to it more than i have any real "mmo" in the last few years surely guild wars 2 will not disapoint the only thing im weary is the combat sounds to involved and that video said no auto attack?

im sure its fun a few times having to hit dodge and stuff but it sounds like something which would drive me crazy eventually

Nah, it sounds like the system in Guild Wars 1 where all classes (except warriors and rangers due to their nerfed Energy regen) can heal :)

E.G. see post 178.

And no-one wants a Thunderhead Keep monk situation again!

*shudder*

Oh hell no, or hells precipice!

Both THK and Hells Precipice were a PITA when GW1 first came out.

Team leader - 'OMG yay, we found a monk!'

Monk - Hello, I am a 55 hp smiter

Leader - *Clicks enter battle as soon as the monk joins* - 'OMG OMG OMG YAY! We got a monk at last'

Team wipes out in 10 minutes

Leader - OMG WTH monk?

Monk - 'I told you I am a 55 hp Smiter'

Leader - 'OMG Noob monk /blacklist'

This game is promising so much, I will be devastated if it isn't a success. Not since the launch of WoW have I had that genuine feeling of amazement playing a new MMO, and this bears the brunt of my hope (I'm reserving some for SW:TOR too).

There have been some decent games - LotRO, Rift... even WAR and DCUO had me hooked for a couple of weeks - but World of Warcraft and, before that, Legend of Mir 2 (I will confess to never playing UO, DaoC or Everquest) gave me more than a few weeks of enjoyment. They genuinely imprint themselves on your lives - when I look back at my early teens, there was skateboarding and Legend of Mir; when I look back at my late teens, there was heavy metal, girls and World of Warcraft (I know the last two don't get linked together often!).

Now I'm not saying I hope in ten years time I'll look back at 2011/12 as "the time I spent playing Guild Wars 2" - I'm obviously ambitious to build a future for myself that isn't about computer gaming - but what I'm saying is that really great MMOs stick with you forever, and I'm hoping Guild Wars 2 will be a really great MMO.

Well GW1 already is a really great MMO, second in popularity to WoW, and has been going strong for 6 years with an active and huge player base.

Its just not everyones cup of tea, but GW2 is trying to appeal to both GW1 fans, traditional MMO fans, and to people who hate MMOs all at the same time :)

Yeah I must admit I really didn't like GW1 at all, always felt like half an mmo to me. Quarter of an mmo even. Glad to see that GW2 has got much more of a proper mmo feel to it.

I loved Guild Wars 1, played it to death, and I'll be putting my faith in GW2 with a fat preorder. I haven't preordered an MMO for a long time due to being constantly burned, but I feel I owe Guild Wars a preorder for all the hundreds of hours I've played. :D

You must now get burned by my Searing Flames, snared into a Meteor Shower, and hacked up with an Evicerate for your blasphemy!

Hehe, I think even the devs would admit that GW1 wasn't a full mmo, it is more an orpg really imo. Something which hasn't done its sales any harm anyway, but I'm glad that they have opted for more openness and mmo feel to gw2

No GW isnt an MMO, the devs called it a CORPG (competitive online RPG).

It was always more of a PVP focused game, and the PVE was always a mere afterthought and not really very good tbh, but it was still a lot better than any other FTP MMO you could get.

By the way, if you havnt played through GW1, you do know you will miss out on a load of awesome stuff for GW2 right?

So get playing GW1 naow! :p

Oh well I definately won't play gw2 if I have to play gw1 first :D

You dont have to, its just titles, weapon and pet skins.

The rewards are also retroactive, meaning you can pick them up after you start playing GW2 if you want to.

GW is fully based around rewards and better loot being based on nothing but skins and titles, they dont affect your actual gameplay and arent any different stat wise to what you can get ingame.

That like saying you wouldnt play another MMO if you miss out on a pre order bonus for a sword and shield.
