Guild Wars 2

You dont have to, its just titles, weapon and pet skins.

The rewards are also retroactive, meaning you can pick them up after you start playing GW2 if you want to.

GW is fully based around rewards and better loot being based on nothing but skins and titles, they dont affect your actual gameplay and arent any different stat wise to what you can get ingame.

That like saying you wouldnt play another MMO if you miss out on a pre order bonus for a sword and shield.

Oh if thats all they are then its no loss if I dont play GW1 first. As long as its nothing important then I'll be ok to go with GW2. (decency of world pvp depending of course)

No its not a loss, but the reward skins and pets look awesome.

In GW2, armor and weapon skins will also be customizable via the cash shop using transmutation stones - You buy whatever armor you want in game, then if you want to change the appearance without having to grind a new set, you can go into the cash store, buy a transmutation stone and change the appearance.

Nothing that I would ever do though tbh, the cash store / rewards / loot differs in appearance only and not stats, so you can play through the whole game in the cheapest equipment without being disadvantaged to anyone else (no need to grind for raid level equipment like you have to in other MMOs).

Another brilliant aspect they are putting in is rather than dungeons rewarding you with random loot, completing a dungeon gets you tokens instead to trade in at a collector for loot. You still have to repeat the dungeon a few times to pick up enough tokens to trade in for a full leet skin armor and weapon set, and different weapon and armor skins will be available from tokens from different dungeons. This is a lot better than I found DDO to be, where I grinded, grinded and grinded one of the end game chests until ransack several times over just because I needed one item, but I never got it and simply ended up full of rage.

You still get random loot from enemies, and unique weapons from bosses for boss hunting addicts like me. Boss unique weapons drop with set non variable stats and appearance, but they have the maximum modifiers for damage and whatever other stats they have.

I used to play Guild Wars grinding for unique green name items from bosses because I love the feeling of getting uber rare weapon drops, but the stats you get on them arent any different to normal maximum stat weapons.

I've got 3 out of 50. lol

Actually surprised I've got any tbh.

You get 3 points automatically for linking your GW1 account to your NCsoft account. That just gets you a few armor pieces. You should try getting it up to 6 for the full free armor set though :)

It will be a bit silly at launch seeing everyone running around in the heritage armor though. Getting 30 points pretty much means never having to worry about grinding a single weapon or armor set in the whole game if you are happy just using the free bonus ones. The stats of the reward items will be customizable up to maximum.

And the lovely lime green colour of the Scholar heritage armor is also my favorite color, so I'm going to be using it for a long time :D

Sounds ok but why do it so that you have to buy an object? Surely better to have the appearance system from LoTRO? Always loved that system, great idea, more MMOs should implement that imo.

I really like the costume system in Lotro too, but you also need to remember that Lotro originally had fees, and their current cash shop sells loads of stat based and consumable items to make money.

Guild Wars 2 will be based on having the cash store provide no strategic advantage whatsoever and only visual based items, plus extra character slots and storage. So they put anything to do with changing your appearance in the cash store like armor and weapon transmutation stones, costumes, and character makeover packs, none of which provides any in game advantage to keep the game fair for people who dont want to spend any money in the cash store.

They need to make money somehow, and they are doing it through expansions and visual items only. So the cash store will probably end up selling lots of armor and weapon skins as well, which I think is fine as its fully optional. Anet's designers make a nice new armor or weapon skin, and they stick it in the cash store. More money for the devs and you get an extra skin for your payment.

As long as the standard colours for gear sets aren't flourescent pink I don't mind.

:D Dying armor is free. Its just the skin that is different. In GW1 when you buy a new armor set, its base colour is always gray and then you add whatever combinations of dyes you want to it. All dyes can be bought from the dye trader, but white and black dye are expensive and rare.

GW1 sells a rather large list of costumes atm, I bought a few, and then got fed up because they started making way too many, but they need money to keep the servers up.

This is the kind of stuff that GW1 sells in the Cash Store, and GW2 will add armor and weapon skin stuff as well:

Its completely optional and not needed to buy, but a lot of people simply buy it as a kind of mini fee - they like the game so much that they buy the costumes to keep the game alive basically.

It actually does go into a costume slot like in Lotro, I forgot about that, but they are only obtainable through the cash store.

Don't most people who've linked there accounts not have a clue what there password and/or username even are? ><

Yup. It took me ages to remember my NCsoft login details. I never use it, and it has actually been a huge security risk in the past to reset your NCsoft login info (they sent out password reset requests to completely random email addresses o.O!).

I hate the NCsoft website.

True I guess its a decent enough way to make money, which they need to do.

How many hours would i have to burn this summer to get a char to r30 on that rewards site?

Old account is on an old email and arenanet/ncsoft won't let me change it, there site is pathetic also, so starting a new account from scratch.

Maybe a month tbh.

Easiest way to 30 points (requires completion of all 4 GW1 games)

Devotion:

1 Green mini pet (black moa chick can be obtained ingame)
1 Gold mini pet (can be obtained in game with luck from royal gifts from War In Kryta where you also get your oppressor weapon)
18 other mini pets (can buy first and second year whites for pretty cheap)

= 5 points

Fellowship:

Fill with 8/8 points, very easy to do after you have completed the full game and acquired all the heroes.

One easy trick here is to make a PVP ranger, equip charm animal and go to the Zaishen Menargerie. You will automatically have a level 20 wolf pet, add it to your zoo, hop over to a PVE character, pick up a level 20 wolf from your zoo and stick it in your HoM.

Honor:

Linked Accounts
Legendary Guardian (complete every mission with masters reward on both NM and HM)
Eternal Lightbringer
Eternal Spearmarshal
Eternal Conqueror of the Domain of Anguish

= 9 points

Hint - Eternal Lightbringer + Conquerer of DoA can be obtained easily from end game Nightfall from completing DoA, where you can also get your tormented weapon at the same time.

Resilience:

Either kurzick or luxon elite armor
Any two other elite armors (EOTN armors are the cheapest)

= 3 points

Valor:

One tormented weapon (easy to get with any class by doing a few DOA speed clears)
One Oppressor Weapon (Complete either Prophecies or EOTN and then complete the end game War in Kryta quest line - easily the most enjoyable quest line in the whole game, but can only be done once per character).
One destroyer weapon
Any two extra weapons.

= 5 points.

5+8+9+3+5 points = 30.

You mean like 30 days /played or just casual month :p

However long it takes you to complete the game, plus a couple of casual weeks maybe.

When I logged into the game after the HoM calculator came out, I had already completed the full game and had 22 points. It only took me a week of very easy stuff to get up to 35 points (I also had several PVP titles, but those takes years to achieve).

Now I am on 44 and will get 45 easily after a couple of more minipets. 50 will require Obsidian and Vabbian armors, which are excessively expensive to get, so I dont think I will bother with going over 45.

Meh, apart from the titles one you can get pretty much everything but just having money.

Armours, cold hard cash, nothing else. Trade Contracts can be used for gems for Vabbian if you really want to. I've got a few stockpiled Ectos, Shards and Gems but not sure if theres enough for those 2 armour sets. My Derv already has a Vabbian top anyway, I just don't really like any of the Obsidian sets ><

Fellowship, just buy the cheapest armours that work for heroes. Only difficult part is getting hold of a black moa if you've already done the quest. Black Widow is easy to get with 7 heroes. Aatxe aren't exactly difficult to kill with Prot Spirit.

Minipets are purely cash orientated, having lots of characters and old characters just gives you more free ones.

Not sure which is the cheapest Weapon to get but all you need really is to buy lots of ingredients. I needed a Tormented Weapon so took my 45 gemsets and Hero'd Stygian Veil as a trapper for the fun of it with a generic SF/MM build.

Hell even the PvP title can be bought thanks to the Zaishen. Think its the most expensive to get though, not sure how much exactly...

I think I might have enough money available to get 50/50 but I'm not entirely sure.

You could farm a black widow with just 3 heroes easily too, /Rt spirit spammer with black powder mine for Aatxes, Panic mesmer, and two UA monks, and do the vale quest.

7 heroes makes it easier.

I forgot that if you complete DoA and other end game content once, you get a title for that too.

Yea the armors just need money, but for vabbi + obby, you need a lot of money.

DoA looks like a great place for HoM filling - Conquerer and Lightbringer titles, plus a Tormented Wep.
