Guild Wars 2

The smaller action bars with a limit to the number of active skills probably mean it could work with controllers, but I really don't understand how a persistent world with thousands of players on at a time could be possible on console hardware.

Perhaps it won't be the full game and just the PvP side, which is just smaller battles using characters that don't use the gear or levels you've acquired in the main game-world, so not including it wouldn't make it any different to the PC version of PvP.

Why wouldn't persistent worlds work? I can't see that being a problem, either it'll have seperate servers or it will be cross platform (unlikely I would have thought)

I wonder if that will mean 1 account will cover you for any platform? Be quite nice if I could be playing on the PC, and then decide to go and sit on the sofa and play on one of the consoles to relax a bit.

i cant see this game working on consoles. Only way it will work is if gw2 is dumbed down to cater for consoles.

Thats my worst fear. by all means release it consoles but make sure it doesnt effect teh quality of the pc version.

Look at Skyrim. average game when not modded due to a load of consolised crap like the UI but when moded with a proper UI, it is awsome.

Things liek dumbing down the UI, the amount of macros etc etc is what i am afraid of!

Also press beta this weekend doesn't have much of an NDA on it. Totalbiscuit has already said he will be releasing a ton of video content so I am guessing we'll get the same from many other outlets!

Apparently hes in Sweden or something for an event over the weekend, but has 2 staff playing the beta and recording -- aiming for 24 hours of footage over the duration of the weekend.

Looking forward to the new content. Even though I tend to disagree with most things TB says, his GW2 footage has been the best stuff released so far imo.

didnt gw1 only have a coule of hotbar slots anyway?

8 iirc, GW2 has 10+ the class specific skills, then you need roll + targeting.

Edit - and as above mentioned, you also need a button to switch weapon sets.

It isn't impossible, you could have the triggers as modifiers and the face / bumpers as the skills etc, the solutions just aren't particularly elegant.

Real concern is the closed nature of the platform etc - especially with things like xbox patches costing $40k.

Also i can't see them releasing it on current gen wouldn't make much sense with their business model of expansions if the new generation is as close as we are led to believe.

Mike Ferguson on Guild Wars 2 World vs. World

Sounds very similar to Realm vs. Realm in Dark Age Of Camelot which would be fantastic.
