Guild Wars 2

Don't ask my why but when I'm playing my mesmer I seem to survive against multiple enemies in situations where I know my better geared Warrior would die. I'm not saying they're overpower (god no) but the phantasm's ability to pull aggro from you for just a few seconds can sometimes make all the difference, clones really help too as does AOE shatter damage.

Just seems like I die very rarely now I've clicked with the class, yet I'm taking more risks!

Got to say I HATED the class 1-20 lol

What do we think this will perform like in game?
I see some laggy points with my current build (see sig) but I think that is more to do with the game / server end.

Would have thought it would run it pretty easily, i sometimes play on my crappy work laptop when im watching tv and thats like an i5-2430 with a 6630m and it runs ok on the lower settings at 720p so i reckon that setup might be ok for medium at 1080p

Thanks guys, I just updated his HDD to an SSD, and it boots well enough, he plays mine craft a LOT and I never really thought to how it has aged, but looking at some performance tables, it seems an entry i3 (2100) beats the once king of OcUK (Q6600) although this is over clocked to a 3.2 GHz, rather than stock, it is feeling its age, especially with Vista x64 Ultimate.

Quick question, does anyone know if Guild Wars 2 works on a University ResNet network. I hear that often many gaming services are blocked. I'm off to Lancaster University and I was thinking about taking my gaming rig with me but now I'm unsure.

I know xbox live works but PSN doesn't, Origin on PC is blocked and I'm not sure about steam. I guess I could use my Pc for other games and entrainment (got a mac for working on) but if GW 2 is blocked I can't play it for like a year!!

P.S I know studying is the no.1 goal believe me, I got to level 80 the other day but I'd like to hop on every now and then.

90% chance the ports used will be blocked by the IT guys...I had all this trouble with my brother when he was at Uni trying to play SWTOR on their RESNET.

The way round it it with 2 bits of software.....1 that connects you to a vpn webserver acting as a local proxy on your machine using port 80 (the HTTP port) and another bit of software that forces the game in this case GW2 to use the software as a proxy server so all the traffice is directed through port 80, the web port which is open or you couldnt even browse the web.....HTTP tunnelling I believe its called.

Now unfortunetely I have forgotten both the softwares names.....(its late) but it can be done and quite simply.

EDIT: just remembered it was called "your-freedom"...google it :)

I enjoyed this game leveling to 80 on my warrior but now everything is just so... dull. wvwvw is pointless its just a constant zerg fest with no real teamwork. spvp is ok but being a warrior its tough on there and boring, bull rush, frenzy, hundred blades rinse and repeat... well after the long cooldowns and if that doesnt kill the target your screwed especially if he has a partner. Ive seen people say this is against the gw lore but the game is called guild wars so it'd be nice to have some guild pvp.
 
Are you in an active guild that does WvW on a regular basis?

Our guild on gunnar's hold do wvw nightly, feel free to join us for a night if you wish, may change your perspective of it when playing with an organised guild group :)

WvW is pointless if you follow the zerg, decent guild groups will let the zerg go off and do their own thing and act as a distraction while the guild groups do the real work.

As for sPvP, the 100 blades build is dull but what do you expect, it's a basic build when playing against newbies, it's not a real build. If you fight real enemies in sPvP then a 100 blades build is almost useless and you will have to start using a proper build to fight them.

I deleted my ele at lvl 11 and remade it as a Mesmer :p The elementalist just seemed very weak and couldn't take any hits. I know it not a tank but I couldn't see how to keep the mobs of me without any root or the dps to burn them down quick.
 
Just did the little mini dungeon in northern Gandarran Fields, was 6 of us going through working together (not in party I might add). That champ spider is a pita!

Was good fun, are there many of these open world little dungeons?

There seems to be one per zone.

Did one in Leonars Pass (SPL?) the Norn zone, my Necro, hunter and guardian. Again not in a group (but therez no teamplayz in gw2?!?!!?) we had to do a jump puzzle, kill a few elites on the way and fought some giant ooze boss. Got a big chest but the loot was useless for me as I was down levelling to do the zone. Fun though :p

I've been playing a tank build on my ele for the past few days. I'd originally dumped it at 48 as it just felt weak in tournaments, playing it as a tank though it's tankier than my guardian. It's bordering on overpowered. [Edit - PvP, not PvE]

Mesmer is the weakest class in PvE btw. I leveled my ele with dagger/dagger as the mobs would die before they could really hurt me.

I have an ele and find it hard to get any space from a mele class in pvp, I know I have some L2P issues but I was wondering what build you use as a tank? and what weapons you use for pvp?

Anyone know how to make a low lvl (45) reinforced armour? I see 'reinforced' armour in the AH every now and again but cannot find anywhere that tells you how its made. Might be a drop only. I see that when you start making 'cleric' and 'explorers' armour at 275 crafting level you then make that as 'reinforced' but i cant find how to do it at lower levels.
Not sure its possible. Anyone know different?

Think i'm 10 Earth, 30 water and 30 Arcana atm using Scepter/Dagger and Cantrip Utilities, but there are a few variations for bunker ele that are good. Chain knockdowns, Aoe Blinds on Dodge, 2.5k heal every dodge (Evasive Arcana is ridiculously good), non stop condition removal, constant buffs though attunement switching. On my Guardian i can hold out indefinately against 2 people and can last easily enough with 3 until the roamers on the team come, on the Ele i can last indefinitely against 3 unless all thiefs/mesmers which you don't get in tournies and have occasionally tanked a full team of 5 until help arrived lol. You need to CC and move really well though.

Make sure you use the gear to go with it though, liek the shamans amulet and runes that give toughness and condition damage etc. Your damage will be pitifully low.
