Guild Wars 2

Buy more :D I've dropped cash in the gem store and bought more bank slots and an additonal bag slot.
Nah, I spent a lot on the game because it doesn't have subs, I'm not going to spend more on it!

This.

I have never felt I have grinded in this game once, but I suppose it's all down to perception.

I don't either, but then I'm only level 20 :p.

I'v not felt the grind either, I generally start out with an objective. A quest perhaps that would take me 4 minutes to get to. 4 hours later im miles from the quest, nothing I planned to do got done and iv had an amazing adventure.

As I've said before, I do think a lot of the game is a grind.
most of the heart missions are basically just kill X number of enemy A but with a progress bar instead of a "x of 60" type display. Sure you can often do them by clicking X number of 'glowies' too. That seems more of a chore than fun though.

I'd find the events more fun if there were less people. With the exception of some of the big Champions I think most events are quite good with around 4 people, but much more than that and it becomes a bit of a zerg where I'm concentrating on trying to run around attacking as many enemies as I can so that I get XP from them and get a Gold Medal. This isn't much fun in my book. I also find the medal rewards a little odd, i've solo'd an event before and got a Silver medal and only contributed to the last part of one and got a gold.

Dungeons seem like they could be quite good, although I've only done the first one.

I do get annoyed that you get XP for POIs, Vistas, Crafting, etc. as I feel that doing them should be the reward and they shouldn't be dangling the carrot of XP as a reward for doing everything. To me this makes it feel more like a grind as everything seems to be about XP which makes XP seem like a big focus.

I'm also not sure I get also the people saying that you're playing it wrong if you're not weapon switching every 10 seconds. A lot of my characters (that can switch) have a ranged weapon and a melee one. Using the melee one at range is futile and using the ranged one at melee seems a bit pointless. And a number of the skills are just for doing damage, not other effects, so don't seem like a great reason to switch to that set.
with my elementalist I often find myself changing from Fire attunement purely because I feel I should use the other attunements rather than feeling I need to use the skills.

While I wouldn't say "your playing it wrong" if you don't weapon swap / attunement swap, you are definitely not playing to your maximum advantage.

All of the classes are designed around this mechanic and to get the most out of them you should use all the tools at your disposal.

In normal questing I don't suppose it would make too much of a difference, as it's quite easy content you don't need to maximise your play. In dungeons / sPVP / WvW (to a lesser extent) you really do need to use everything to contribute properly to your team.

Using the melee one at range is futile and using the ranged one at melee seems a bit pointless

Well yeah this would be a bit silly way to try and play! I would suggest using your ranged set as an opener when you are at range and then switch to melee set as the mob/player closes in.

This is what I find, a one hour session turns into 4 hours without me even noticing or pausing as I'm dragged from event to event. Love it!

With atunement swapping (and weapon) while you might not see much point. when you hit harder content (dungeons and such) you will find all skills in all 4 atunements on cooldown and you need them ALL! for healing, DOTs conditions, damage, AOE, KBs etc.

Hey all, I bought this today after some bugging from a friend, and missing an mmo in my life recently. Will I need something more powerful than my old gtx 260 to run @ 1920x1080 30fps on relatively nice looking settings?

Are we playing the same game?
I have to actively go looking for events!

And then when one pops up on my map 1 of 4 things happens (with a fairly even distribution):

  1. The event is completed before I manage to ever so slowly run there.
  2. I get there and do the event (and possibly a follow on event or 2 if there are any)
  3. I get there and I'm the only one there and the Event is to defeat a Champion.
  4. I get there and find the event is bugged and not completable.

Also, quite often when I do do events there are too many people there for it to be any fun. I feel 4 or 5 people is a good number for most events (unless it's like The Shatterer or something).

I find up to level 70, i end up skipping events as iv just done a huge chain for the last few hours. And until the 70+ ones they are all fine and rarely mobbed unless its a chain for a dragon.

In the 70+ the events get really hard and require groups, even large 10 man groups or more and the problem of low population comes into play.

I'm stuck in a terrible grind for Explorer. I need 2 areas in the Shiverpeaks and 3 in Maguuma. They're obviously areas without waypoints/PoIs/sps/hearts because I've got all of those.

No, it must be those damn hidden jumping puzzles which I have avoided like the plague thus far. Grr.

I believe some of these are in dungeons too.

We must be playing different games, I get the same feeling when people say they out level zones, I never have this happen.

I was in first Norn zone today and the only time I was not in one event or another was when I once popped off the track to farm some nodes. I went the length of the map clearing event after event, including both meta events without stopping. I was on for almost 4 hours without pausing or even realising I was levelling, perfect levelling game.

Anyone who doesn't think this game is a grind has yet to reach lvl 80, and experience endgame.

I didn't find leveling a grind, but at 80 it most definitely is. Farming mats, Gold, Karma, dungeon tokens all come from grinding Orr.

That is a starting zone though. All the starting zones are highly populated with stuff to do.

This was an alt, I have been up to 60 and had the same experience.

I haven't experienced endgame but I wont be shocked its a grind, there has never been a single MMO out there that is not a grind as they need a reason to keep people logging in.

the only real grind is karma or legendary item crap.
the legendaries cost far to much money and the only people anywhere close are the ones who took advantage of COF farmingto make 25gold a day

100% map completion takes ages
farming 200+ sp takes ages
farming a ridiculous amount of karma takes ages

but most the above arent to bad as they are things your likely do do anyway.

farming 200-500gold or whatever the ridiculous cost is right now is just crazy considering how little stuff sells for and that amount of gold in gems costs a stupid amount of money
