Guild Wars 2

You can, but the whole point is really to group up and quest/pvp together. It isn't really a single player game like Skyrim or The Witcher.

Actually this is the best mmo to play solo, there is really no reason to group up to do events/hearts etc other than social reasons. Also if you like to play solo and end up needing help with something, a lot of the maps seem to have very social players who are helpful and friendlily, specially ones with big dragon boss events on them.

This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Pumpkins scream in the dead of night!

It's here everyone, some fun things to get working on. Also, the Heart of Mists decoration is probably the best I've seen about so far.

For an MMO without a monthly fee, I think the devs have done a good job of the halloween event so far. A few bugs (like the devil horns, and the buggy door that could be farmed) but most of the stuff seems to work.

I do think that skins are a bit expensive though, with a very slim chance to get them from chests, 3 of them have recipes that are very expensive in terms of material costs (better to save mats for legendary weapons) and to buy the skins on the TP is 45g+ when I checked.

You can start the story in Lions arch, you talk to an NPC in the center area (where there is the big lion statue) and he gives you a device which is powered by candy corn to start the first part of the story (where you have to hunt for certain ghosts who will tell you bit of the story and a clues to the other locations). All of the locations are quite low, I can't remember the levels myself but you only need lions arch, kessex hills, gandaren fields and queensdale.

I'm not sure about the dungeons or the jumping puzzle stuff yet.

Dungeon is in Fireheart Rise near all the surface lava.

Jumping puzzle is in Dredgehaunt I think.

Not impressed by the haloween stuff (at least not this initial act 1 stuff) its just a lagged out mess in Lions Arch, cant even do anything :p

Gave up after an hour of ****, hopefully the rest will be more engaging.

Personally I didn't find it too bad, I followed the clues and got all 6 bits of the story needed for this first part of the event. I did need to look at the wiki for help finding the specific spots for some of the bits though, but that's just because I'm a bit lazy.

I finished the quest too. Also had a bit of help from wiki as to the where about of one of the pages.
Loving the trick or treat doors, also like how you can see them for miles off, you just have to be quick and get there first.

The fighting thing is a bit naff. Sadly im at work for the next five nights so i wont get much chance to have a decent bash at getting/crafting some of the festive items.

Leveling is much too fast though, while getting my amour crafting from 350 to 400 i gained 2 and a half charactor levels. Kinda pushing me put of the area i was questing in.

The best way to play is go to areas higher than what you are, lvling is much slower and much more rewarding. I feel this game will be a lot better when less people are playing, there will be more grouping and more skill being used.

I found that if i explored/quested etc in areas 0 to +5 of my level I gained EXP and levels at a much faster and more fun rate than If i played in zones below my level.

It added challenge and so you improve in your skill, drops from monsters are actually often upgrades (at least until you start getting rare/exotic in the late 70s/80)

and the EXP rate for exploration, quests, POIs and kills etc was much higher.

I know everyone is talking about the new Halloween event, but i wondered how many here play on Gunnar's Hold, or may even be interested in moving there for some WvW?

We've lost quite a few big WvW guilds that joined Blacktide and we're slipping down the ranks, but those of us left have started building a great community, lots of old school Prydwen / Excal DAoC players. We have private a server forum and 10,000 slot mumble server and gradually getting more people involved each day.

If there's any guilds out there thinking of a new server with small queues and an organised community, give Lint.9076 a message and we can chat.

Thats really weird because i found just the opposite. When playing in areas with lower levels than my charactor i was raking up the xp like nobodys business. Being in a harder zone seem to yeld the same xp per kill but at a vastly slower rate.

I have a warrior and an engineer. The engineer can take on mobs a lot higher than his lvl as long as i dont get near to them which is easy with a rifle.

Yeah this was on an ele which involves avoiding being hit and kiting a lot. Also I move fast through the zone revealing the map quick hitting POIs and such quickly and hitting all the craft nodes I can. That extra exp racks up quick.

Exploring areas 10+ levels above you (avoiding all baddies) is also good exp for a while though tricky. It may be the fact that when im killing things below my level, im bored as hell and it sucks and so feels a drag. And in the higher zones you have to actually work for your reward if you fight things up to +5 your level.

I found the 60s to be the worst leveling. The start of the game 1-30 is busy and lots of stuff is going on, help for events etc. The end of the game (cursed shore and frostgorge, 80) are busy. But the middle 50s-60 are dead. Nobody at events, enemies move in larger groups and its a real PITA to clear the maps unless you get level 80 and geared then go back to the 60 zones when you're OP.

Now that the big american PvP guild Ruin have come across to Desolation, to give us a much needed night time presence, the WvW has really begun to turn for us. We've really begun to dominate in WvW, now I'd love to see what happens next if we get grouped up against vizunah again
