Guild Wars 2

PVP was a disappointment for me to say the least, just seems dull compared to other MMOs, not honestly sure if I'll continue playing it much longer.

PVE is still fine but I'm not convinced I have the will to keep playing, time for a break I think!

I have to agree, the PvP has been a total letdown for me, what with the culling issues, and the complete lack of any balance between classes, making certain classes absolute killing machines, and others, little more than damp lettuce.

PvE though, well, it was fun for a while, but after the second or third time around, I kinda was running on autopilot through most zones, the DE's dont interest me, they're either farmed, or impossible to do on your own.

Ultimately, I stopped playing just after the fractals were released, and to be honest, I've not been overly enthusiastic about returning.

Game just doesn't "feel" guildwars to me.. it feels more like 'generic mmo #327'

Changes to WvW incoming:

Advance notification of new builds
In order to allow WvW players to make good decions about siege placement, assault timing, etc. we’re adding a new build pre-announcement. This will be in the form of a message broadcast to all players some time before the current build expires. Because this notification is tied to one of the final steps in our build process, and those final steps take a variable amount of time, we won’t be able to say exactly when the current build will expire. Instead, the message will provide a window of time in which the new build will become available.

Alt+F4 is no escape
If someone that you’re fighting disconnects during combat (via Alt+F4, killing the client process, etc.) their character will be instantly killed, death penalties will be applied, and XP & loot will be handed out as usual.

No more insta-build walls & gates
Destroyed walls and gates will now rebuild when they reach 10% health rather than on the very first repair. This means that when attackers down a wall or gate defenders won’t be able to instantly rebuild it. Walls and gates which are destroyed can still be damaged if they have any health.

Breakout events
We’ve added a new event type to WvW called Breakout events which trigger when one or more teams have been pushed completely out of a map. They’re designed both to help players break out of severly camped portal keeps and to provide assistance in establishing a foothold in each map. Here’s what designer Matt Witter has to say about them:

Break Out Events are special WvW events that will happen when a team has lost control of all defensive structures, not counting supply camps. An NPC commander will appear in the team’s start area and an event will start that prompts players to gather around. Once enough players are in the commander’s presence he will summon his trusty dolyak to give all allies in the area full supply. He will then lead the charge to the nearby objective and give players protection and assist with building siege to assault the objective with. Those benefits, along with a defensive boon that he applies to all nearby allies, makes the attacking players a force to be reckoned with. Defenders will have their work cut out for them, as once the gate or wall piece is destroyed the commander will move to the tower lord inside and attack anyone in his path.

These changes are just a small part of what the WvW team has been up to lately. As you may have already heard, we’re hard at work on some larger updates that we plan to deliver in February. We’re not quite ready to talk about the details yet but as February gets closer we’ll start to reveal more of our secrets.

And tons of Wintersday Event Info:

December 14 – January 3

The nights may be long and dark, but Tyrians of all races keep joy alive during the ancient holiday of Wintersday. While each race celebrates Wintersday in their own unique way, children all over Tyria share a common love of one thing: toys.

This year the city of Lion’s Arch will host the asuran Toymaker Tixx as their special Wintersday guest of honor. Before Tixx arrives in Lion’s Arch in his massive airship toy workshop, he’ll visit every major city in Tyria to deliver Wintersday toys and holiday cheer.

Bah humbug and all, but I sodding hate all this candy-cane snowman rubbish every year in my mmos. It's almost mandatory at this stage to shoe-horn it into whatever mmo you happen to run, regardless of how out of place it is.

Aion was the worst iirc, with that awful xmas music playing constantly in the capitals.

Wintersday fitted in quite nicely with the GW1 mythology, it was a celebration where the Gods Dwayna and Grenth faced off, if Dwayna won then Spring would come early, if Grenth won then Winter would last longer.

Now there are no Gods, but the Wintersday tradition still goes on.

I took a break around 4 weeks ago and can't drag myself back....not as compelling as GW1 (I have over 1000 hours logged) and the WvWvW thing just doesn't play out right for me.
Not in a guild anymore (not since running one in GW1) so PvE based and a little bit of a yawn I have to say.:o

Looks quite good. As always the artwork and the graphics will be top notch.

Going to get stuck into wvw a little more now that I'm sorted with gear, love wvw battles. You'll struggle to find better mmo pvp despite it being a little unbalanced still, though Anet did always say they are going for large scale rather than one to one balance.

Ahhh well just an update after my account was hacked, I got my account back after i but unfortunately there was no way arenanet could retrieve my character, I have got a free lvl 80 ranger out of it though and with no quests bar 3 done if i want to do the storyline it should be a breeze hehe. Still highly annoying though...although I imagine more so for the hacker as the ammount of time he mustve put into that character to grind up to lvl 80 with no quests or anything hahahahaha. I only lost a lvl 30 Charr necro which was annoying enough.

If he's hacked you account could he not have hacked the character to lvl 80, maybe why he was found out?

I got hacked too but thankfully got the account back. All of my characters were there and my "Female Ranger" ws leveled to 72 with 42 gold in the account and some rares in the inventory. Thanks hacker!

Wow...could you be anymore of a miserable git!

Its not even that intrusive! :o

I suppose so but there is quite a few rares in the inventory so i can only assume he grinded...got all the pirate gear etc. He was found out not by Arenanet but rather by my girlfriend as she plays GW too. She went on after a bit of an absense and text me saying "i thought you were watching movies" i was and replied back saying so, so she said "well whos on your guild wars account then" she was also surprised as she knows i dont play it much so when she saw it was a level 80 alarm bells started ringing. I tried to log in but they had changed the email address and password so contacted Arenanet and got it sorted.

Very little gold in the account so im guessing he was a gold farmer. Im just annoyed as although I didnt put a massive ammount of time into my Charr (lvl 30) I still feel like it was a waste as he deleted it. The thing that really does infuriate me is I only had the one character so the hacker had 4 other character slots with which to use so why delete mine? urgh.

Just pointing out that it's almost mandatory to shoe-horn in a load of xmas trees, presents and some kind of santa lookalike into every mmo now, and butcher the lore to make it fit.

It was fun the first 3 or 4 times around, now it's just like walking into your local shopping centre - full of decorations and music that are only there because the shops feel they have to do them or they'll miss out on your business.

Could you be any more insulting?

I bet I could :p

Adds some variety to the world/gameplay. Especially for those who have been playing along time.

Just a tradition mate.....only lasts for 2 or so weeks in game...doesnt stop you playing.

Lifes mundane enough without something to break the everyday grind and same old routine.

Plus you get a nice break from work! :p
