Guild Wars 2

Thinking about jumping into GW2 (I always get the MMO itch around Xmas, memory's of playing WoW at this time of year) question I had was: how bad is the hacking / can you be hacked with a mobile authenticator?

I have read some story's regarding GW2 that suggests it's possible even if you do...

Just have a long password with symbols, numbers, words and caps.

I have the above, about 22 characters and never had an issue even without an authenticator.

Great game as well so you should enjoy! :)

I had all this but just had my account hacked...very obscure password with numbers and capitals but they still got in...no idea how as my email has not been compromised, no virus, spybots or keyloggers on my pc.

Can only presume they got it from Arenanet themselves and quite frankly there service was pretty shocking so I would be very careful. Lost a character and all items/gold that went with it. Also just happened to a friend as well.

Its a decent game, much better in beta though as the grind didnt seem such a chore. However Id say security is very lax coming from my own experience :(.
 
Had to use that earlier when i decided to patch it up for a gander at the Wintersday event tomorrow, router must be on a new IP.
 
Email authenticator is a useful tool, I have to use it every time I log in which is irritating but I find it to be useful for protection.

Almost on 168k karma to buy the last of my Balth gear, will probably need to temporarily switch realm to a server with it open though!
 
Does it have to be the Balth ones? You can often get the same stat gear from one of the other shrine vendors...
 
Email authenticator is good, but annoying for me as I use my phone to tether, so near enough everytime it asks to authenticate!
Using the Google mobile authenticator attached to my Google play account, ain't nobody getting into that :D

I activated that in early November and for a few days it asked for the code every time I started the game but then stopped asking and hasn't asked since.

I don't know if that's 'cos my hardware signature and IP have been static and so they haven't asked or 'cos it's broken.

Checked with a mate in the US and he has had exactly the same experience - it no longer asks him, either.

Anet changed the code recently so that it no longer issues an authenticator challenge unless your IP changes and it's no longer in your list of authorised ranges.

There are more updates planned, so that you will eventually have the option to be challenged every time if you want to.
 
Looks like Gandara are on course for promotion if we keep it up in the current round. Should be interesting as we were already considered the underdogs before this point!
 
Warriors can be very powerful against the squishier classes. Possible to 15-20k burst damage with the correct build. I should know, I've been on the receiving end of it a few times!
 
What server are you guys mostly on?

I was playing Desolation at launch with the fail of a guild that was Immortals. Thinking of coming back and would like to play with a decent WvW guild.

Yeah they good fun specially in wvw.

And the immortals are still on desolation and surviving ...it's funny how the people who we remove always whine
