Guild Wars 2

Well, Tiny and Liahm and Jane are on a lot. Sweetloaf and Red rolled characters but don't seem to play much. Grov and Az I think are about too.

Most of us agree that PvP<<GvG and can't wait for Anet to bring it back.

Wha-hey! I remember you all! :) Cool to see you all made the jump over! And yeah you're totally right, GvG was like a chess game on speed, whereas the point-capping thing just involves a lot of running about. I still do a bit of drop-in/drop-out for fun, when I want a 20 minute break from work, but I'm not going to get into it in the same way I got into GvG or Tombs. God I miss Tombs! Never did get my wolf :(
I wouldn't hold out much hope of them bringing it back, the lead PvP guy in ANet now is some guy who's a huge LoL fanboy, so he's trying to get the pvp in GW2 to be as much like that as possible. The closest thing to GvG you'll get is WvW. If your server's reasonably organised and you have a bunch of decent commanders who know what they're doing you can really run circles around enemy zergs much bigger than yours.

How much is it to change server?

It was free to transfer up until a week ago... But you can still guest on any other server for free if you just want to meet up friends for pve! You just can't wvw on the server you're a guest on.

Doesn't matter what race your friend is, you can still explore together, you can go straight to each others home areas right after the tutorial quest. :)

You need to use the Cow Launcher :D

Just to the east of that tower, is the cattlepult. When there's no event on (and when it's finished pulting cattle), interact with the cattlepult and you'll appear on the top of the tower.

Me and my friend have been stood there for a good 40 minutes last night to see if an event would happen and nothing happened and couldn't interact with anyone :(, i check the GW2 forums last night and it's bugged it's annoying when it's the last thing you need in that area!!

Run around to the back of the launcher and you should be able to interract with it.
It was bugged until quite recently where you got an error message saying 'Content not available' or similar.
I got that vista maybe 10 days ago after the fix.

I have tried pressing 'F' all around the launcher and speaking to both the people near it aswell and still nothing :(

It's not just the GvG though. Generally there's less co-ordination in GW2. The best thing about GW wasn't the zones it was the missions which were blanced for 6-8 players and the co-ordination needed to comlpete it. How many times did you try Thunderhead Keep with PUGs who couldn't get their **** together?
It's good that the great outdoors is soloable now but I miss the structured missions for small groups. The dungeons are OK and Fractals is also a step in the right direction but both rely on boss mobs rather than mobility and tactics to keep swarms at bay.

Damn I'm getting so close to making my very own Vision of the Mists greatsword for my Mesmer!

Since this is effectively a 'semi-legendendary' it'll have to do.
No way I'll ever have the time to make one.

Phew, what a slog even this has been:

50 skill points for Eldritch Scroll
250 ectos
100 mystic coins
250 Orichalcum greatsword blades.

You're absolutely right, it's because it's a whole new combat system. Fighting is a lot faster, messier and more chaotic now, which means it's far more reliant on individual player skill and reflexes and far less on team coordination. Also, because each person is a lot more self-reliant now, team build synergy is far less important now. Whether that's a bad or good thing is up for debate. Certainly 1 on 1 combat is a lot more entertaining, but I really miss that feeling when a nice necro blood spike came together and downed someone flawlessly, or when a hex pressure build finally ran the enemy monks dry and you could see their team gradually fall apart (you could tell from how they started running around in a panic and their monks frantically switched weapon sets well before people would start dying!).

Sure, sometimes it was frustrating to lose to another team simply because of their build, and a lot of people are glad to see the back of FOTM and "Build Wars", but, tbh, I ******* LOVED THAT STUFF!!! Every time there was a skill balancing I would pore over the patch notes hungrily, and I would get an evil glee and mad glint in my eye when I got the idea for a new shamelessly cheesy and completely exploitative team build!

I remember once in our Basin days I got an idea for a build based around a couple of fire eles with Mark of Rodgort, a ranger with Greater Conflagration and a bunchload of minions. I tried to push it to our team and our leader dismissed it contemptuously, cause he wanted to run ranger spike because it was so full of win (/sarcasm). Then less than a month later observer mode was introduced, and we saw a War Machine smurf team run an almost identical build and completely rolling people with it! :D

So yeah, I miss that aspect of the game a lot, but there's no use moaning about it. GW1 doesn't have enough people to go back to it (and tbh the power creep in Nightfall ruined the pvp for me anyway, things got dumbed down to only 1-2 viable builds per class that relied on powerful, spammable elites, so that heroes could do it better than players...), and GW2 is such a different game that I don't see how they could make it more like GW1. It's fun in itself in a different way, and that's enough.

Having said that, I have seen some WvW videos of people who were clearly running co-ordinated builds and rolling much bigger zergs with it. It relied on lots of aoe defensive skills (mesmers, guardians and eles), which they would time and rotate so they always had one up, and then spam aoe to wear down the opposition, with the occasional pull so they could spike someone down in a place where his friends couldn't rez him. It was really quite impressive, and I couldn't figure out exactly what they were using tbh, but it was clearly tactically thought out in advance, and very highly co-ordinated almost to GW1 team pvp levels.

You need to go to the other side of where the guy is standing to find the point at which you can interact with it. It's very unintuitive, I know.

I've been playing this since the weekend and it seems pretty good, I just really miss stuff from the original guildwars :( ( mana, multi-prof builds, ai teammate control, better spell builds .. etc )

There also seem to be a few annoyances (slow motion movement etc).

So far I have a level22 necromancer and a few lvl8 characters.
My favourite professions at the moment are necromancer and mesmer.

I'm on Desolation server, not sure if any guilds are recruiting :)

Tell me about it :D

I've got Reaver of the Mists... and now I'm making another one so they match :o

Though, I'm tempted to keep my Ghastly Axe instead. Just wish it glowed blue all the time, not just at night.

Everytime I look into this thread I am tempted to pick this up.
Is it relatively easy to get into?
More to the point, is it a time sink :D ?

EDIT: Screw me above post is Hex... didnt realise!
Alright :)?
(Waits for the "GW2 is the best game since sliced bread" spiel from Hex.)

How do stranger :D

Well, being that GW2 is the best thing since sliced bread, you'd be mad not to come and play it. :p

Learning curve is quite easy, you should have no problem doing general world PvE stuff. Challenge comes later on with Dungeons, high level Fractals, WvW, etc.

As for the time sink, it's entirely up to you. I know people (in my guild) who have like 8 lv80's and play every hour God sends. And there's others who pop on for a quick dungeon in the evening and that's it. As there's no monthly fee you can come and go as you please without the pressure of thinking "I've paid £X to play this this month! I best get my monies worth!".

HeX, is that your character? That looks dope as hell.

Enough to encourage me to get back into levelling.

Yeah that's my main :) Mornath Korr on Gandara (Army of Masks [AoM] guild)

Very easy to get into, as casual or "hardcore" as you like (no time pressure from fees).

Art design is pretty stunning; I imagine great care has gone into crafting the different PvE zones, as they all look beautiful. PvE has a decent and fairly unique setting/story - of course there is a mishmash from every single fantasy thing ever written, but there are many refreshing twists and it feels like a believable world.

Voice acting can be hilarious (ie so bad it is funny), but I can say for sure the asura personal stories are fantastically written.

Combat in general is fun, although the camera and targeting system can take a while to get used to. The problem is they have tried to make combat more "real time" and action oriented through dodging and free use of skills, but the camera/targeting is still stuck in the past with turn based mechanics. Really bad decision tbh, it's the most annoying thing in the game. It makes playing melee and agile classes (ie thief) painful. I recommend a combat mod to bring it up to a true action experience.
Of course if you intend on playing a more sit-back-and-cast class, then you're fine without it.
