Guild Wars 2

What do you mean by less purposeful?

I dunno. I never feel like I have a role to play. Its all DPS without any real thought behind it. I think if you are going to develop a system whereby you only use a max of 10 skills then at least make each class have a significantly different role so I can chop and change. I feel like I do the same job whether I'm on my warrior, elementalist or engi.

Dont get me wrong, the pace of action is far superior to previous mmos but combat just feels samey and considering its the heart of the game, I find.myself getting bored of running around mobs spamming 3 buttons.

Guild Wars 2 just doesn't seem fun, am i missing something?

Currently been playing guild wars 2 for the first time with 2 friends and we've just hit level 14, and it's striking me as a very bland game? my MMO experience doesn't far much from runescape and a bit of DCUO/EVE, but it's striking me how in runescape (i know it's not considered a good MMO by some) there was always a clear cut story line i could find, a new monster with loot to kill or a new mini-game to play, whereas in guild wars it seems to be fairly bland, i know i'm barely into the game but it's just not giving me the experience i expected, i'm currently powering through the main quest and doing all the other hearts and side quests/meta events, but it seems i'm rarely changing gear and i just feel like it's going to be the same for the rest of the game. So my question to you guys is, what am i missing? am i doing something wrong or is that just what the game is like?

i have 1200 hours playing guild wars 2 on desolation server. I myself at lvl 60 when i started was saying 'My gear has not changed' but then i realised the alternative gear from the normal is at karma vendors when completing a quest.

Questing gets really boring very quickly but you can join world vs world vs world by pressing 'B' and 'enter world vs world' this is a weekly matchup of 3 servers. This is what i enjoy the most but at lowel levels can be frustrating but stick with a commander and you will level up quickly!.

They is also PVP which i have never stepped foot inside yet.

Overall a good bargain priced game with lots of content and updates.

I somewhat agree nadrian however the brief spells i play GW2 for i enjoy. I usually play for a month fairly grindy. Then give it a break for a while. Thankfully GW2 facilitates this.

My advice is try and play content at least equal to or 2-3 levels ABOVE your level. This incites a little bit of challenge and allows you to progress your skill a bit. As with any MMO do some reading on your class and look into some builds and ideas. Fractals are some of the hardest PvE content in the game, so using fractal Builds give a great indication of top end game play style by using those setups and getting used to the more diverse and interesting combat roles. rather than just speccing all Damage and crit. I'll admit i just relaxed and enjoyed the view and the story up to level 80. but once at level 80 i took things a bit more serious and started collecting the top end gear and runes etc.

you wont notice the differences in class, build and role at only level 14 im afraid.

All that said, you cant "grind" guildwars as such as it dies out fast. Its one of those pick up and play, enjoy then stop for a while as new content builds up enough to pose another good month long play session.

I stopped playing it but they've added a lot since and started doing weekly updates. Currently trying to get ascended gear which is going to take a while :)

I have been enjoying it, picked it up for £20 and easily had my monies worth.Currently level 60, seems to me the fun begins at later levels, haven't touched pvp or wvw yet, been farming The Maw and hearts, also doing the story. Finding it hard to make gold though, currently have 6g.

Don't worry, both myself and several friends who played GW1 to death gave up on it after about 8 months.

It just has no draw after a certain point, leveling is uninspiring and the level cap feels arbitrary, there is literally no end game and PvP is a massive cluster **** with no finesse at all. GW1 was so tight and contained, everything just worked, GW2 just seems....I don't know, kind of sporadic in comparison.

GW1 at least had things to do, the story was mostly compelling throughout the campaigns and gave the progression a real sense of direction, something GW2 lacks in spades. End game GW1 was mostly grinding but the grinding was done in interesting places, UW/FoW/RoT were/are both very fun places to solo/group farm, plus with the addition of Urgoz/Deep/DOA with Factions/Nightfall and then the dungeon journals in EotN there was a plethora of things to do with your time that required people to really work together.

GW2 is just so unfocused, dungeons are a mess because all the classes are so homogenous and combat is just particle effect city, plus the lack of dedicated healers means you either gimp a class into pure utility which is boring as sin or hope everyone is on the ball enough to sort themselves out (which they rarely are), also none of the classes are anywhere near as interesting or rewarding to play as in GW1.

For me GW2 just has none of the charm GW1 won me over with, its just another MMO to me full of needless complexity yet at the same time very little variety, I think they concentrated their efforts in places where they just didn't need to, i.e world scale and graphics when they should have been concentrating on mechanics and filling the world with things to actually do.

Don't get me wrong, I do not think by any means that GW2 is a bad game or a bad MMO, there are a lot of things I really like such as the class active abilities, dynamic events and world bosses, the move active combat style (though it has it's downsides), these are all good things, unfortunately it just doesn't feel like Guild Wars to me, it feels like...well just a good MMO, which just isn't what I wanted from it.

Agreed fenris. Though i do really enjoy playing my ele. And i enjoy playing utility. While speccing as a healer does gimp you. An ele at least can spec extremely versatile untility rather than just focused on one aspect. For that I enjoy it, spreading might and boons, putting down huge heals and still being able to root, blind and apply meaningful AOE DPS. (i play staff mostly, but do love me some D/D)

Certainly, playing at a more "elitist" level where you take groups that mutually benefit eachother I enjoy. but its nowhere near the draw GW1 had (to me)

That said, I dont regret buying or playing it, and i look forward to playing further content as it comes out. But unlike eve, GW1, even runescape or other MMOs its not the kind of "stable diet" game you can play a lot. Its pick up, enjoy and put down.

For what it's worth it did have some great features which I hope more MMOs pick up on, like being able to play with lower level friends/scaling/automatic and explorative quests etc, I'm sure I'm missing loads.

But it needed more, I quit near end game because it was apparent from my friends that it was a massive grind for better gear and repetitive gameplay. Shame.

Why were you disappointed? I see people keep going on about no end game yet don't have full ascended accessories which take months to get, also ascended weapons and armour soon which will add to that. The game is excellent in my opinion, I still think too many people compare it to WoW and that's why they end up disappointed. Completely different MMO's I think.

Just started playing GW2 again after enjoying levelling a toon to 80 at release. Never really had the time or inclination previously to give it the time it deserved first time around, but started a new Thief last weekend and really enjoying it again. I forgot just how many things it does brilliantly, particularly after hammering WoW for 5 odd years.

Are there any decent, casual'ish but still active and friendly guilds recruiting on Desolation?

I dunno why GW2 didn't grab me like other mmo's have, I think it was a combination of the character progression, which just seemed a bit off - there was very little compunction to unlock additional abilities, and the way questing worked, which just seemed a bit impersonal.

The world exploration is amazing though, I spent hours just wandering around Divinity's Reach exploring at first. Never seen such a well crafted world.

For me personally I found GW2 to simply lack and form of reason to log on everyday and get stuck into something with your guildies.....my personal draw from MMO's is being able to log on...talk about tactics on beating a new boss and work together tackling a RAID in a largish group (more than 5).....the feeling of doing so was great.....gear was also the reward for doing so, which then allowed you to progress as a group.

I just feel that GW2 offers you simply shiny gear to aim for and that requires doing the same thing over and over until you get it...but no real reason to actually have that gear....or it serves no purpose except for vanity sake.

I dont really enjoy PvP in MMO's so that side of it for me isnt really relevant.....I do think its a good game....but I certainly dont think about playing it on a daily basis like I have done with other MMO's.

Its just my personal opinion....just felt a bit dissapointed by it all....even though I still log on and play sometimes.

Maybe if they added a 10 man content with large bosses that required tactics i'd be happy....rather than big world bosses that is just wack and win.

You and about 80% of MMO players, really sad as it was a game I had high hopes for.

Ascended gear does offer a purpose though as it gives better stats, also the fractals and most dungeons require tactics to complete them. In a very organised guild that offers good tactics so unfortunately I don't see what you're getting at here.
