Guild Wars 2

Wouldn't even stuff like VLC, XBMC and Firefox be classed as third party?

The link goes on to say:

"Please: Think twice — think a dozen times — before you click the button to get that alleged “cheat,” “hack,” “gold spawner,” “free ecto hack,” or (for goodness sake!), “Beta Key” or “key generator.”

So i'm guessing its more in reference to just downloading malware, it's pretty ambiguous though.

Realistically speaking someone could gain access to your account by:

Account sharing
Keylogging
Misc malware
Phishing
Exploiting the same login details from a website/forum

I dont understand why phishing would be restored but being keylogged wouldn't.

I played GW1 for a long time at one time had close to a thousand people in the guild with about 250/300 on every night, and the only people I ever knew who got hacked was people looking for some kind of freebie/easy ride from 3rd party sites, I have had my GW1 account for years, and never had a problem.

As to the support and patching think they will be fine, I always thought for what GW1 was it did bloody well, and I think they will be better faster ands more professional with GW2, not perfect by a long shot but more than ok.

I only ever used support maybe 3/4 times and was always helped pretty quickly as well.

It is worth bearing in mind that in general feedback on Customer Support is poor for all MMOs. It varies greatly in frequency, with some people having great experiences and others really bad.

For example, I've had nothing but trouble with Blizzard support. I once got hacked on WoW. I woke up in my underwear next to a mailbox. After about 20 hours waiting to get seen in-game, they eventually escalate it and suspend my account while they 'investigate'. A week later, after continuing to pay, and hearing nothing back, I get an email saying they've unblocked my account and changed my password. I log in, and I'm still naked, no rollback, no explanation, nothing.

But I can appreciate that there are many people who have had problems similar and had much more pleasing outcomes - it's just the luck of the draw.

Does anyone know if the beta client will "update" to the full client on release, or if we will have to re-download a whole new client?

If we have to re-download it, any idea how long it will be available to download before we can access the 3 day early access? I only have 1mb internet so I really have to plan this stuff out :(

No info release officially regarding this. But I personally think that we will be able to patch the beta client as opposed to having to download a fresh one and since we could preload a fair few days before the first beta event I would imagine that Arenanet would also make the release client available to download prior to relase.

Pretty sure that we will be able to patch it.

It'll just be a patch to retail, they'd be mad not to. Think about it - they'll have an open beta weekend just before launch, to really get the hype machine rolling. If open beta players know all they have to do is buy a key and apply it to their account to get into the game, a lot more will do so (and will be more likely to do it direct from Arenanet too).

Some times they do have a full new download as some changes are just not compatible with the beta version, or they want people to have clean install so less tickets going in on day one.

Tho personally I think it will be patch to retail.

Not open beta though. As the other beta events, it is is pre-purchase only. So that stuff of buying a key and adding it to your account is not valid, I think.

Yup this, I got a email about it a week or so back.

Added: or maybe not as cant seem to find the email, feel sure I got one ...:p
