From the sounds of that... Are these Beta weekeneds allowing you to use pre-levelled characters then?

All the beta weekends so far have been creating new characters or using characters from previous beta events. No pre-levelled stuff.

Ahh ok - so you don't really get to try out the characters then, just sample the base levels

Would be nice if you could have brief access to all chars/unlocked to see which would be more fun to level up...

unlike a lot of MMOs, the majority of skills in GW2 are based on the weapon you use, and can be learned within the first 10 levels, so you get to try out quite a bit, and if you focus on 1 character during the beta weekend you can unlock quite a few of the utility skills too. For example in the last weekend test alone I managed to try out 4 different classes and all their weapon skills in 1 day. It's quite simple.

I disagree, I don't want to be given access, part of the fun is earning it. Plenty of people in the beta test are at high levels already.

You can just go to do sPvP and you have all the skills instantly.

Plus you can enter the WvWvW at level 1(something you could only do in Warhammer Online).

I'm only talking about a little sample for us noobs

Like a sandbox mode... nothing "live" - so you can play with skill assignments etc to see what you'd like to earn instead of guessing as you go.

Would certainly help someone like me build a character

I guess the Sylvari will be from the area near The Wilds in GW1, that was one of my favourite parts.

Some of the yogscast footage isn't too bad (although personally the commentators get on my nerves at times, one of them seems to get excited over the littlest of things). Totalbiscuit has done some vids on it too. Both available on youtube.
