Guild Wars 2

Not had any problems except a couple of d/cs in the first ten minutes. Surprisingly my name was free as well! Had fun just mooching around the start area and wading into events. Barely touched the actual quests yet.

The death of holy trinity is good

About damn time too.

Couldn't agree less.

Lack of defined roles means no one takes responsibility.

Lack of responsibility in turn equals the lack of giving a damn in general.

Generally not a good attitude to have when your trying to organise people.

Besides this isn't the thread to talk about the removal of the Trinity.

Needless to say, i was a fan, still am a fan and still 100% think every MMO needs defined roles.

I disagree, I think removing healers could be a good thing. Bad players that stand in fire and get killed now only have themselves to blame. Heal yourself or die pretty much.

If will increase the skill of the player base and those that can't adapt will quit and blame the game for their failings.

Win Win for those still playing.

You still have a role though, just means you have to take care of your self more than any other mmo, and that's not a bad thing! People need to forget about how other mmo's play and enjoy GW2 for what it is.

I don't think it follows that 'getting everyone to do their own healing' = 'make playerbase more skilled'. You are undervaluing how important and skilled the healer archetype was in-itself. But anyway, that's one for another thread...

I would pay money for a meaningful transit system in this game :( It feels so cheap and rubbish to just instantly teleport around, across zones and from one capitol city to another, just to follow my personal Story quest. I miss travelling!

In an organised run it's ok.

In a run with randoms, it's crap, you spend 10 times longer waiting for someone to fill the last role, then the tank blames the healer for lack of healing when the tank doesn't have the gear, then the healer blames the DPS for not doing their job, then the DPS blame the tank for not holding aggro.

I think realistically that with GW2 we'll still see tanks, healers and DPS but they'll be more like support classes than all out tanks and healers. I know my warrior is more tanky than pure damage. I was playing with another engineer (while I was on mine earlier) and him taking the healing kit and letting me mostly do damage seemed to be what worked best. Obviously he was still doing damage and I was still healing so it wasn't black and white, but the idea was still there.

Not at all, I have always played a healer in every MMO I've ever played and I know its an important role and takes skill to play well. However I do think too many people are quick to blame their own failings on others, now there is more responsibility to look after yourself that might shift a little.

In terms of playstyle how do Engineers and Rangers compare?

From reading the blurb I'm guessing Rangers are more mobile, have multiple pet types, while Engineers sound more static and....perhaps more AoE based?

I dont know about rangers but engineers can be mobile or static. Using turrets is probably the best way to deal damage but makes you very static and a turret dying (and they take damage from AoE so they do die a lot) really sucks. You can use other skills though and be totally mobile and not rely on turrets staying alive.

Spent the whole day lvling crafting and in the end went from average of 22/75 to 40/75, that's it, no more gathering for me, either I am doing something horrible wrong or crafting is mother of all grinds in gw2.

Latest from the Facebook feed:

We're aware that players are having trouble getting into the same overflow map as their party members, and our developers are working on fixing this. In the meantime, try a workaround: right-click your party member's icon in the top left-hand corner of your screen and select "join". ~RB2

Got in eventually.

Controls are a bit strange tho.

For instance aswd are back foward etc... however double s and double d does the roll thing, but double a nd double d does nothing.

During combat are we ment to use the arrows keys? Becuase they seem to do the roll in all directions, which seems strange...

Oh and performance is heavy! With every thing on max, it drops to 40ish fps, I had to go with native aa to get back to 60fps.

In what way buchtis?

It's not a subscription based game, however I do think there's a lot of blinkered chat like I've seen in a lot of games. I've read a few times how "this is way better than WoW" etc.

I like it, best non-subs MMO I've played and to be fair so far it's far better than other recent MMOS I've tried such as Rift and SWTOR .

So far.. :)
