Guild Wars 2

I've been enjoying it a lot so far.

As usual the art/environment design is stunning (gw2 art team is amazing), music is good, gliding and mushrooms are so much fun, story isn't bad either.

And yes, the maps are becoming more familiar all the time - at first it's like "I have no idea how to get anywhere" but now it's much easier.

My only criticism is the contrived content gating - ie elite specs behind hero challenges, behind masteries, behind experience... there's no thematic journey to unlocking elite specs (themed quests, npc trainers etc), it's just grind for the sake of it.

Anyway I'm only 2 grandmaster traits and 2 skills from fully unlocking Chrono so I don't care about hero points much anymore.

Maps are too big for my liking. They seem empty now and this is the height of the expansion. Those sand things that warp around and are immune when stood in their own sand are well annoying.
Yeah they use the same Unrelenting Assault as revenant's sword skill.

But they instantly run out of their smoke field if you back away and then can be dealt with.

Oh, possible mastery spoiler... Early days though so peeps that have played more than 4 hours will have passed this...
After getting the first point in Gliding, choose the shrooms one next straight away - Means you can progress your story quest!

game is very busy, ques for WvW most evenings and very easy to join a blue (open group) commander on WvW and get upto 100v100 blobs.

i havent played much of the expansion area and done many masteries yet as mainly playing the world vs world

I haven't played since a few month after original launch but I've been looking at picking a older MMO up and GW2 is tempting me.

Have they moved the gameplay on from dungeons requiring 4 warriors and a mesmer?

I enjoy mainly dungeons and raids and it looks like they've added raids in now, are these guild only or can you queue up for them with randoms?

I think you can join with randonms I've just started playing again but yet to do any dungeons only had a level 60 before.

Enjoying it so far.. Old server is a bit quite might need to change.

If you're simply referring to the meta for speed clears it'll depend heavily on which dungeons you do. For the most part I could only ever really remember the 4 war, 1 mes composition being a thing on citadel of flame path 1 speed clears. However the mechanics behind what made that particular composition so strong has long being nerfed.

I can't speak for the expansion since I've yet to play it but when I last played the state of dungeons in vanilla weren't in that great of a state, anet seemed to be focusing all their resources on open world pve, which sucked because it was a massive zerg fest.

The game does now feature it's own LFG tool which went a lot way to improving dungeons.

I have played GW2 for many years and still love it to this day.

The Expansion is brilliant and there was a quarterly update which addressed a lot of issues.

As seen in another thread I have just ordered PC parts to build the misses a rig for GW2 :D.

In less than 3 weeks I will be playing it again every day, feel free to add me on steam if you fancy playing some time.

Well I took the plunge and stuck it back on yesterday, Gone for a Sylvari Mesmer this time. Seems they've streamlined leveling with it telling you where to go etc, got upto level 13 or so in a few hours with a friend.

For a game that came out in 2011 it's surprising how well it looks. Runs fine @ 3440x1440 which is a bonus.

Official release was 2012 :). I have tried almost all MMOs until I got stuck in to GW2 and it by far surpasses them all.

The misses is a Sylvari Mesmer also :)

GW2 is a very CPU based game so increase that clock for better performance as GPU won't alter all that much.

Glad to hear about the Ultra Wide resolution as I plan on buying the ASUS PG348Q.

Getting tempted to try this again, I only really played when it first came out but remember getting frustrated due to the healing mechanism, think I tried to play a ranger but really struggled as I just died over and over in the dungeons due to no healers so ended up just getting to max level and pvping as I couldn't do anything else. Has this changed now?

As always there are no dedicated healers or healing class.

Ranger does have a mastery which is a druid that is supposedly a good healer. But this is what makes GW2 so good is there there is no healer class.

The healing mechanic is something you have to learn as spells and moves can grant regeneration and the like.

Its all in the technique but its easy once you grasp it.

That's pretty disappointing to be honest, I knew the tricks for the healing mechanic and I was able to stay alive no problem at all solo, but once into the dungeons with random people it was just impossible.
