GUILD WARS...

I must be doing something wrong. All I seem to do is walk from place to place and kill monsters one by one as they get in my way.

I was walking around on my own until i worked out how to get henchmen but it seems a little easy with them.

Is there more to this game or is it just like this at the beginning?

Yes, that's how it starts, once you pick a secondary profession, you can go and start the game properly, On the proper world map are missions to do as well as standard quests.

Yep, you just basically kill everything and follow the arrow. If you want more from this game I suggest you complete the PvE a few times unlocking/capping skills and go play PvP :p The PvE is a bit boring imo.

Yes, most people play GvG (guild vs guild) and that is ranked so your guild will appear on the ladder. You can also play Tombs which is a tournament style game where you have to beat other teams to reach the Hall of Heroes where you gain favor of the Gods for your region. You get special hard PvE areas if your region has favor.

Anyway just thought I'd bump this thread cos the Chapter 2 PvP weekend is here and is free for anyone including those who don't have GW! The new stuff is simply amazing :D

Well I am not enjoying it so far. Seems really lonely out there despite the hundreds of players standing around. I get the henchmen but its just a matter of kill one, move to next, kill him..

Will give the PvP a try but I dont think I will be getting the next chapter at this rate.

Have to say that my initital impressions are the same. At first I hated the PvP aspect in WoW. Grinding away only for someone to sneak up behind you and gank you while low on health, but later on this becomes fun as you return the favour. Guild Wars does seem very lonely when out of the city. Might take a character to 20 in my non-WoW gaming time, but can't see it holding my attention like WoW has for the last 12 months. At this rate buying the expansion is not a priority.

Also, does everyone wear the same clothes only with different colours? Havent' seen a member of the same class wearing different clothes yet. Certainly not as varied as WoW in the sense of equipping items dropped by mobs.

Have you tried maybe not taking the henchmen and going with real people? It can make a big difference.

More or less yes, there are various different sets of armour, probably no where near as many as in WoW but then it's a different game entirely PvE is really just there as a training ground for PvP in my opinion, the PvE has nothing like the depth of WoW and it isn't supposed to. Try some guild matches with a decent guild who use TS and it will all start to make sense :)

Thats fine, but as a new player I have no idea what I'm doing so don't really feel comfortable taking a lvl20 character and equipping skills etc that mean nothing to me. At least with WoW, you learn you trade over time in an exciting environment and are not locked away from all the other players.

Perhaps I've been spoilt by playing WoW first :(

The funny thing is, that I was getting bored of WoW and was curious as to what Guild Wars was like, but since playing my interest in WoW has gone right back up again. Perhaps I'll try my hand at GW every now and then and see if it improves with time.

Also whats with the environments? Yes the gfx are nice, but invisible walls everywhere? WoW may be cartoon gfx, but I think I may be in the minority and actually prefer the WoW gfx and environments for setting the scene. Especially when played at 1920x1200.

Don't take this as too much of a slating as I appreciate this is an established, well played game and that I need to devote time and effort to it to appreciate the style and differences of it. If I don't like it after a fair bit of playtime, then thats another issue ;)

I have joined your guild but no one ever comes and joins me in the quests. With wow you could just hook up with someone as they passed and join in but once you are out in the instances thats it unless you want to start again.

No one wants to play with me :(

I hear what you are saying Rudeboy :)

It isn't for everybody, I understand that. When I say PvE is the training ground i mean that it's worth plaing through with a character to get used to your skills etc, I certainly wasn't recommending jumping in at the deep end with PvP..I will hurt! :D

I know it's not really the done thing, but if you really aren't sure what you are doing, you could look in the manual that came with the game ;)

Bloodline, what's your IGN? and where are you up to?

To be honest (and I'm probably guilty of it myself from time to time) I don't know why people keep comparing the two games as if they were supposed to be the same, they offer different experiences.

I finished the PvE campaign a while ago, the guild kind of died around the same time, I decided that I would have a shot at running it to see what happened. If this hadn't renewed my interest, I would have simply left the game. I then started down the PvP route and here I am 8 characters 1000hrs later with a full guild of 100 decent people almost half of whom play daily. If the PvP doesn't grab you, I doubt it will last as long, although it does for some...

My name is Demon Dogg and I am no where lol

I only just watched the place blow up and am wandering around outside doing a few quests. So right at the start.

Sorry mate but I have trouble with all the names at times!

I'm sure if you post here:

you will get a decent response, this forum is where we organise most things to save cluttering the OcUK thread.

Hope to see you later!

I got called for GvG before it finished, but you were doing well enough, sneaking round the back way and all sorts of dirty tricks... ;)

Sorry, manveruppd, I missed your post somehow, the truth of that match is that we were ranked 37 after the reset and they were about 5000 due to it being their first match since the ladder started, they were all saying OMG, We've had it, WOW etc etc in local chat presuming that we were great. I added fuel to this by suggesting that they just leave now to save embarassment, after they had taken a few beatings..they did! psyched 'em out I guess :D

YOU should know, shouldn't you?:D

Probably but most of our matches are sponsored by one brand of premium lager or another :)
