Gun crime in the UK - law and controls

Sports? Shotgun? Tell more.
:D
Competitive clay pigeon shooting, i done it for a few years and got to A standard in the down the line trap discipline (AA is the highest). But it was very expensive and very few get the sponsorship required to compete at that level. Even in trap shooting, which DTL is a part of. Its the lowest form of the trap shooting styles compared to universal and olympic trap. The latter being the one that is one of the oldest sports in the modern olympic games.

Ammunition cannot be 3D printed.

Doesnt need to be.

A determined DIY gunsmith could probably manufacture his own black powder and round shot.

This would be fine for a traditional style colt 45 revolver.

(In the original Colt you didn't have shells, you actually loaded the chambers with powder and a bullet. this gave you 6 shots rather than the single shot from a traditional muzzle loading pistol. Much to the surprise of somebody who hadn't seen one before! :p)

The trickey bit might be the cap (Which ignites the powder)

In any case, the most likely candidate for a DIY gun to my mind would be a muzzle loading pistol.

Cheap and simple (After all, it is only 17th century tech)

The effective range would be very limited and you would only have one shot (Or maybe two if you make it a side by side) but for most criminal applications that would be just fine.

OP is fishing for someone to bite.

Thread needs locking and disposing of as OP isnt serious hes just poking dumb comments to provoke someone to kick off at his supposed ignorance.

Thanks Orionaut, five additional shots would be a considerable advantage. Black powder burns are written up as rare forensic findings in the contemporary scientific literature.

DXP55 and HybridX
I have reviewed your Slippery Slope link and I highly value for example HybridX's posts on the first page very much.

I have thanked folk throughout for their generous contributions, some took the time to load pics which is ace.

My first post clearly explains that I am researching for a dissertation.

If you personally perceive there is another motivation I can only apologise.

A uni dissertation? Surely you must have had at least one module by now on how to effectively perform research. You've got to admit it seems odd that someone "researching the topic" would ask about it here rather than do the actual research themselves using the abundant sources available.

Good news!

I was awarded my Forensic Medicine diploma by the Apothecaries Hall, London yesterday (I am a dentist not a doctor). I get to use the postnominal DipFMS.

I wish to express my gratitude to the genuine posters in this thread.

They rapidly increased my Firearm IQ when I asked for help and their insights helped shap a substantial portion of my essay.

Cheers

How many legally held weapons are used in gun crime?

On how many of those occasions had the Firearms Licencing Officer or the local constabulary failed to remove those weapons from their owner despite the owners previous actions making them unfit to posses them?
