Gun crime in the UK - law and controls

I think jpod is what you would describe as an aspiring closet gun enthusiast.

I'm a gun enthusiast, but current controls tend to keep them away from head cases and it should remain that way.

I've never felt the need to keep one in order to shoot burglars or entertained the idea, despite having them for sport.

Which could just be directly linked to the population increase.

Actual stats show its dropped 5% in the last 10 years alone

Not sure I follow you regarding population increase there Boyce. The Profs paper refers to incidence, not the population or ranking.

He also refers to the 1980's and 1990's.

Your talking about 2005 to 2015, the last 10 years.

What do you think about the 3D printer issue? Tell me what you think about that homes.
;)

My point was if for instance you increase the population, theres going to be a relative increase in crime, armed or not. Citing the ban as a 'failure' based on that as a statistic is going to be skewed.

But actual facts based on a country where gun ownership is almost a right show that death by gun is massively more likely.

The 3D printer issue is a non starter, it was tried and wasnt really that successful, as its still a bit of plastic at the end of the day, it was safe for one shot only and that was it.

In fact one of the test guns just exploded when the guy tried to fire it for the first time

Haven't got the foggiest about the population issue to be honest.

Regarding 3D printing, I disagree, I think it will be an issue, I have had a brief look at the link I posted - they are selling the printer, the plans and you can making a working assault rifle out of metal with no serial markings.

No longer need a $500,000 industrial CNC printer..............cad files online. Pirate Bay anyone?

It's a CNC milling machine, nothing new. They are providing the files to produce an AR-15 lower receiver, not an entire firearm. In the US all the other parts are unrestricted, over here the pressure bearing parts are restricted.

You have absolutely no idea what you're doing, and I hope for everyone's sake you are never issued with a firearms certificate.

Given that US SWAT teams stopped using the P90 due to its very poor terminal ballistics

Where did you read this?

Then what are you going to do
Batter someone to death with your plastic/metal 3D printed gun??
Last time I checked you can't print bullets!

Good job that twitchy finger wasn't on a trigger ;-)

Have you ever tried to calibrate an industrial high quality 3d printer?

If you can buy one, set it up and make a fully functional gun, then you are either a guy who isn't stupid enough to go round on killing sprees or you are a guy stupid enough to go through all of that then it would have been far cheaper and easier to just get one illegally the standard way. 3d printing is a game changer in many industries, fortunately for us, it isn't a game changer in the budget boom boom trade.

There are loads of ways to DIY arm yourself to what would be legally classed as a firearm. 3d printing is probably one of the stupidest ways.

Is this a post count thread?

I think you are over-reaching a little LB.

Are you aware that I am researching here to write an essay, keep your hair on.

I am sticking with my Webley 22 for home defence. Sadly it's not gold, but it could be! ;)

Sure, I agree. It is not a feature of criminal gun violence.

But 3D printing will become cheaper and easier in the future. Look at home PCs.
