Gutted

Looking at that pic yes he looks to be in the 40 zone but he has also said they have sent 2 other photos (that we havnt seen) that were taken before this one, one of which was 3 seconds before which would have been in the 30 zone and the other photos dont say timeout on them.
Must admit though its a nasty place to put a speed trap :(

Bad luck, it makes it more annoying in circumstances like that i.e. accelerating into a 40 zone. A camera van near me always shoots down a straight (30) road that leads onto an NSL section and I'm always cautious of getting caught like that.

Although I think I'm also getting a mugshot through the post sometime, but it was in a courtesy car so it could take ages to come through :o

Only because I can't be bothered to edit and upload them, the other two pics don't show me in relation to the signs anyway.

I am tempted to add a short letter in with the signed NIP, asking if the photo can be checked against the one I've took, and if it still proves i'm in the 30mph zone then i'm sorry etc etc.. worth a go I thought?

If I contest it, the fine could be a LOT worse.

Forgetting the timeout on the pic for a second at 38mph with a 3 second gap in the pics the OP would have been 167 feet further back up that road, so the first pic taken must have been taken whilst doing 38 in the 30 zone.

Doesn't take away from the fact that it's bloody harsh though.

A bit OT but from this does this mean that when joining a major A road for example which is say a 70 zone we should be twaddling up the slip at 30 to meet the traffic doing 70 else we are speeding? Cause I for one always boot it up the slip road to make sure I can merge in at an appropriate speed.

Dampcat was right though when he said it wasn't the same sign, but it's the one at the other side of the road (parralel).

edit, that actually makes no sense due to the angle:confused:

The camera van would have had to be well to the right? in the field!!??

about 3 seconds away, then. Ridiculous.

It's even worse when you put it like that. Thanks mate:p

Seriously though, I wish the Police would go stick their cameras near schools and accident prone areas, not pointing towards a speed limit change for gods sake... It's almost as though they took photos of the 40 sign as they knew I'd contest.

The way I see those pictures, the angles and perspective I would say you were done by a vehicle following you not a stationary van.
Most likely an unmarked car, as I hope you would have seen a marked car following you.

Nah, an unmarked car would have stopped him, not snapped a few pics and posted them to him.

It's definitely a stationary camera van. The pics were only sent to me as I requested them, this isn't a formality.

Contest what? He was doing 38 in a 30, although one that only lasts for 30 odd meters. The only thing that is debatable is whether it is in the public interest to pursue this (but believe it is only for Crown court prosecutions (law is not my thing)?).

I would certainly send the pictures off to some newspapers though.

woah, in that case ^ photo above, the camera must have been in the field, so you're well past the signs, chase this up with them mate..

i'd use googlemaps and add that photo of yours

edit the googlemaps photo, to show 'roughly' where the van would be to get that angle, and you're in the right :)

I was offered a speed awareness course today:)

Still annoyed at the original offence, where the camera was placed etc. but I'm glad I get to keep a clean licence.
