[H]ardOCP: GeForce Partner Program Impacts Consumer Choice

As much as the GPP sucks and yes in my opinion it really does and yes it is underhand by NVidia. But I just have to say that to most members on here it wont make any difference whatsoever, those that want the best will still buy the best and at the moment that is NVidia, now if AMD can pull a rabbit out of the hat and come up with something fast enough, then maybe people will change their minds, but until AMD do that, NVidia are clearly at the top of the tree, performance wise.

Don't stop with the propaganda programme stuff though Boom as it is funny as *****.

AMD and Intel with active actions: https://wccftech.com/amd-response-to-nvidias-gpp/

The program allegedly demanded from PC and graphics card makers the exclusion of AMD from their gaming branded products, essentially cutting NVIDIA’s only competitor in this arena from the gaming market. Companies that refuse to be part of the GPP are allegedly put at crippling disadvantages that would render them almost entirely unable to compete. More specifically, they are denied high-effort engineering engagements, early tech engagement, launch partner status, game bundling, sales rebate programs, social media and PR support, marketing reports, and even GPU supply/allocation.

There have been several major developments over the following weeks after the story originally broke, and you can read all about them here. Starting with Gigabyte & MSI removing AMD products from their roster of gaming products, to gamers calling for a boycott of NVIDIA and its GPP partners, HP & Dell refusing to join the program, Intel considering legal action against NVIDIA and finally the FTC’s and EU Commission’s acknowledgement of consumer complaints and calls for an investigation of the GPP.

AMD Calls NVIDIA’s GPP “Anti-Gamer” & “Anti-Competitive”

Trump became the US president, so I wouldn't be surprised if Nvidia managed to get away with this despite all the outcry.

I know it's "business", but it's bad when it involves stripping the consumer of the freedom choice to for products. Can you imagine Apple somehow manage to manage a way to stop new Android phones from ever coming out again and virtually forcing consumer buy iPhone only if they want a smartphone?

I don't know if any Nvidia fan is celebrating Nvidia has a "winner on their hand" with the GPP or if it is a good thing, but in the long run it is only going to come back to bite us the consumer in the rear.

There is a solution and it's called 'for God's sake, just avoid any GeForce graphics card altogether'. Just show nVidia how meaningless and stupid company it is.

We have RX 580 8GB that is faster than GTX 1060 6GB and we have RX Vega that is as fast as GTX 1080.

Bad solution, why should i support them? They also just want my money. People should just buy what suits them best with the best bang for the buck and not look for brands. RX580 was a good possibility, but Vega? It's been a suitable buy for about 2 weeks, when priced 400$/500$. After the starting rabate it's never been an option.

So, support one incompetent company for another incompetent company.

As i said previously, boycotting is just silly as it limits your choice.

This is AMD's problem and it's their responsibility to do better.

It's incompetent consumers, not incompetent AMD. AMD did everything they could and even in their best days, they were still outsold thanks to the mighty power of the Nvidia fanbase.

I disagree. AMD have known the Radeon brand has been in the gutter for years. It's not trusted and is cancerous among consumers.

Yet, AMD insist on continuing to use it.

This is on AMD. No one else. And stating it's due to incompetent consumers is just a pish argument imo.

So does the GPP just stop companies using (the same) gaming branding on non-Nvidia cards?

Am I the only one that's not particularly bothered if my GPU box says "Gaming" on it or not?
I really don't think the branding of a card is going to bother me, I'll just buy whichever brand I want at the time (likely the one performing best).
If this stops MSI, Asus and Gigabyte from just slapping their GTX1180/2080 cooler on whatever AMDs next cards are and hoping for the best isn't that a good thing? Getting them to make a cooler for AMD cards sounds good to me, although I guess it might add a price premium.

The problem is not about bothering what's on the box. You and me would do our research and would know better that the name means nothing. We however are not the majority.

What if Nvidia changed there name tomorrow and called themselves something else, they would automatically lose a lot of there brand power for those that didn't know better. People know and trust the Asus ROG brand thinking it's the best where as people have no clue who Arez is. It's not even Asus Arez but just Arez Strixx and so on. Asus is a big name but Arez is a nobody in most people's minds. Surely you can see the difference.
